I am starting to get sick of working in NYC!!!--venting
The nasty, rude, dirty, obnoxious people really are starting to get to me. Its bad enough I have to come into the city to a place I hate. To deal with the idiots on the LIRR that are running me over to get to work, the geniuses on 7th Avenue that are always weaving in and out of traffic so they can keep walking. I am getting tired of it!! Why does the job market have to be so bad. There are no signs of improvement either. I would definitely take a pay cut and work in LI over dealing with this crap everyday. Thanks for listening to me.

I hear ya. I take the Ronkonkoma line everyday and I am getting sick of the LIRR and its disgusting trains and bad service. The annoying people are bad too. I spent this morning's ride trying to tune out the horrible snoring and SNORTING of another passenger. No one could rest this morning and he snored all the way into Penn and then got up and walked off the train like nothing ever happened. I'm tired of the subways too. And the weird people who talk to themselves. I don't have it so bad because I work in the West Village and it's actually a nice area to work because it is not too touristy, but I feel your pain with the commute and the morons. I work in book publishing, so unless I want to go back to the one place I worked at on LI (it was horrible) I am stuck in the city.
Grrr! I hate this job market

I worked in the city for 6 months, and had to look for a job on the island, becasue i hated it too. I also was scared becaseu I worked in WTC 2, and it always bothered me that it had the truck driven into it, it always scared me. I was so glad to get out of there, and found a great job on the island, with a bot of a pay cut.

I was sick of NYC from day 1. And the LIRR, let's not even discuss them. They are the worst.

I used to work in NYC and the people on the train are enough to make you sick, they smell, don't bathe, don't use deodorant, etc. The subway is 10x worse than the LIRR to!
I can never work in the city again.
I feel for you

I love my job, if I didn't I would NOT deal with these disgusting, annoying people everyday! The best is now you even have to pay more and you get NOTHING OUT of it....BS

i work in the WFC so i have to walk pass the WTC site everyday. i certainly understand the need for tourists to be there, but the utter lack of respect for what happened baffles me!!!! the subway doesn't bother me too much, but don't even get me started on the LIRR!!!!

My FH commutes to the city every day... he's not crazy about it, but he loves the city. His company used to be in the WTC Tower 2 also (I read someone else was too?) and he was there on 9/11. I think we're just both glad he's alive to even have a job to go to! But I understand the frustration... I think my blood pressure would skyrocket if I had to deal with the LIRR. Morning rush hour traffic is bad enough! I wouldn't mind being a stay at home mom someday

I hate hate hate working in the City. The LIRR stinks...the subway is the worst and it adds over 4 hours a day to my already too long work day.
My only bright note is that my company owns EAB Plaza on LI and most likely (crossing fingers) they are giving me an office there to oversee the building. So hopefully my railroad days will be over soon. I'm sure though then I'll be complaining about the LI traffic but oh well lol

Take the Ronkonkoma line too, HATE it...just recently started commuting because my job relocated and everything seems like an inconvenience, getting to the train, walking to my job, rushing to the train home. I feel like I lost all tolerance to people since I have been commuting...anyone else???

I feel the same way. I have been commuting for almost 8 years now. I don't know how I've gotten this far! Everyday I say the same thing. Why am I doing this? I get home at 8-8:30 every night, or later. Is it really worth it? I am an interior designer, and it is hard to find good designers to work with on the Island. I'm going to start looking.

I feel your pain, I just started the LIRR Ronkonkoma-Penn commute and I HATE IT. So much shoving and pushing, it's ridiculous.
I was so spoiled at Grand Central Terminal.

I worked on Long Island for 6 months and thought driving to work would be great! Boy was I WRONG.. I hated it way more than the crowded N train I took from Queens! Now I'm taking the Path in, and since it's only 15 minutes, it's not bad at all...
BUT- I took the LIRR for a year (Babylon line) when I lived w/ parents after college and it was the worst.
This is why I can't move to LI right now.... why we are buying a condo in jersey instead of a house on LI.

I have the pleasure of working around Rockefeller Plaza. I see tourists everyday!! I avoid Times Sq. especially around Matinee Day. Its really taking a toll on me. Shelzyp I am worried too. Everytime our building has a fire alarm go off, I really get worried. The last time it occurred was on the 40th floor. We are on the 41st!! I was really shaken up. What if there was a real fire or something else... ya know?

ugh don't even get me started! That's why I moved to Nj. Like Sassy, I take the PATH in every day its a 25 minute ride. It is kinda like the subway but not as bad. I am going to start looking for work in NJ when we move so I can drive every day.
Disgusting obnoxious people go away!!!!
Sassy - when you walk down the hallway to the PATH, why is it that they allow bums to lay ON THE FLOOR! The port authority cops are always standing right there and do nothing! Sometimes I can't even tell if these bums are dead or alive and I feel bad.
Edited to say: And another thing don't get me started on tourists who stand in THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET OR STAIRWAY TO LOOK AT THEIR MAP. I always help them with directions to get them out of the way LOL. And at the end of the day when I get home my mind is still in Manhattan racing mode. Is it really worth it?

I hate the comments I get about living in the suburbs. Someone in my office said to me not long ago, your going to stay there and be a baby machine??? So many NYC people think that living anywhere else is crap compared to living there!

Oh yeah, I get the suburbia comments too. It's like I can't complain about my commute because they will tell me to move to the city. And they think I should work as late as some of my co-workers who only live five blocks from the office. I'm sorry, but I have a life out here on LI, I don't see the need to work until 9 and then what? Get home at midnight or something (since there would only be one train an hour and with my luck I would miss it).
And with the fare increases, I feel robbed, to add insult to injury

Re: I am starting to get sick of working in NYC!!!--venting
I guess I am the odd-man (or woman) out on this one huh?? I really do love working in NYC. I worked here for 13 years then got laid off. I decided that I would look for a job on LI. I knew that I would not be able to do what I was doing and would NEVER get the pay that I would in NYC. So, I tried it. I have never worked with a more immature, unprofessional, catty bunch of people before in my life. I couldnt stand it!! THe mamagement of the company were @ss-holes. There were 2 different doors....one for management and one for peons!! We even had to leave at night out of the back door!!! I worked there for 9 months and it felt like 100 years!!
Im not saying that every company and everyone on LI is like that....but this was my expereince and it was awful!!
Im not a fan of the LIRR or the subway but its much better that the REDICULOUS traffic on LI. I used to commute the other way ( from west to east) and would still hit traffic.
No matter where you work, it wil have its good points and bad. I miss getting home by 5:30 but do not miss the abuse!!

Re: I am starting to get sick of working in NYC!!!--venting
I agree with Julie and snowboardgirl, I hate it when people who are either single and /or live in NYC give me dirty looks for leaving at a decent time. I have a life at home, dinner to cook, gym to go to, laundry calling my name....guess I am not a modern career woman LOL....never wanted to be one anyway!
