I asked my brother to do the .....

Original post by SoontobeMrsMc

Father-Daughter dance with me. He said 'yes'-even though he feels it's going to be very hard for both of us. It's a happy yet sad at the same time kind of thing. I hope I don't lose my mind during it and start bawling!!!!!!

Should I just skip it instead?

If I were to do the dance with my brother- do I pick a song that I would have danced with my dad to? Or do I pick another type of song? What are you other ladies in this situation doing? Any song ideas?

'Through the Years'
Kenny Loggins

I cant remember when you werent there
When I didnt care for anyone but you
I swear weve been through everything there is
Cant imagine anything weve missed
Cant imagine anything the two of us cant do

Through the year, youve never let me down
You turned my life around, the sweetest days Ive found
Ive found with you ... through the years
Ive never been afraid, Ive loved the life weve made
And Im so glad Ive stayed, right here with you
Through the years

I cant remember what I used to do
Who I trusted whom, I listened to before
I swear youve taught me everything I know
Cant imagine needing someone so
But through the years it seems to me
I need you more and more

Through the years, through all the good and bad
I knew how much we had, Ive always been so glad
To be with you ... through the years
Its better everyday, youve kissed my tears away
As long as its okay, Ill stay with you
Through the years

Through the years, when everything went wrong
Together we were strong, I know that I belonged
Right here with you ... through the years
I never had a doubt, wed always work things out
Ive learned what loves about, by loving you
Through the years

Through the years, youve never let me down
Youve turned my life around, the sweetest days Ive found
Ive found with you ... through the years
Its better everyday, youve kissed my tears away
As long as its okay, Ill stay with you
Through the years!

this is what i was going to suggest.

It will be hard but it will be really nice. I honestly think that if you decide not to do it because it'll be hard you'll regret not doing it, but if you do it I don't think you'd regret it one bit, no matter how hard it is. It's up to you, do whatever you feel comfortable with.

I lost my dad 1 1/2 years ago and I am just skipping the father/daughter dance. I am actually tearing up just reading the words to these songs. I think ultimately you'll just 'know' when you hear the song whether or not you'll be ok.

You could always do something really funny with your bro like Billy Idol's 'white wedding'. Theres a line that says 'hey little sister...'

I think this is a great idea. I know it is going to be hard so is there a song or artist that was your dad's favorite. Maybe you can dance to something by the artist?

would it be easier for you to dance with your mother instead? both of my older cousins lost their dad when they were teenagers, and they danced with their mother at their weddings.

Kim... I love that song. But I don't know if that's too much to handle or not. Do you think you're going to be able to keep it together during that?

I think it will definitely be hard but the whole day will be. I found that song and the words were perfect for my situation. My brothers and I are really close so this can be our tribute to him on the wedding day so he knows we are thinking of him.

P.S. My brothers said they remember you

I feel the same way Kim. It's going to be a hard day no matter what. I only hope I can get through it while still being able to enjoy it. I have written down all of your wonderful ideas -they have been such a great help. I have a very similiar situation as you do... My mom was remarried way before my dad's accident. I have a great stepfather- who i love very much but I think that my mom is the best one to walk me down the aisle and I think my brother is the best one to dance with me- he is the closest person to me in every way and he is the closest thing I have left to my dad. So, now it's just finding that song that fits perfectly and doesnt make me lose my mind! lol I am going to download all of those songs tonight- thank you!!!!

P.S: If you ever need to talk- Im here too. Please FM me.

P.P.S: I looked up your brothers in the year book. Of course I remember them now. I'm getting old and can't remember anything anymore! lol

Thank you so much. Same goes for you! I am glad some of my ideas have helped you with ways to incorporate your dad into your special day

I dont think you should skip the dance. Believe it or not, i think you will feel worse if you skip it. This isnt the same situation but my sister had a dance with my brother at her wedding and they danced to Christina Aguilera's 'I turn to you' which was a really nice song. Not a dad/daughter song but rather a loving song.

I would suggest maybe an upbeat song to dance to. I think it would make it a little easier. Then I would ask other people to join in. So it could be like one big party instead of a sad moment.

my friend danced with her brother (who also walked her down the aisle) b/c both her parents passed away

they danced to their parents wedding song as a tribute and only did 1 verse and 1 chorus b/c it was hard for them but it was so touching
