No this is not an off topic thread.

I need to know what I need to buy to wear under my dress. Bra, slip, anything else? What kind of bra would you suggest for a corset backed dress. Does the slip need crinoline? Where can I buy the slip? TIA!!!

When I bought my dress they gave me the slip and bra that I should wear with it. (Well, they charge you for it, but it is the one that fits with it). I bought it at David's Bridal.

The slip depends on what kind of dress.

The bra-I am not sure

You mentioned that your dress is corset style, but I am assuming your dress is strapless.
You have a couple of options depending upon the style of the dress, to ahem, hold the girls in place. You will either need a strapless bra or a long line bra.

If your dress has boning, and you have no unwanted figure flaws that need sucking in, a strapless bra is the way to go. (You can get strapless bras that cross around your tummy -if your dress is backless).

If however, you want to camouflage a few areas, then the long line might be a better option.

There are two basic types of long line bras one that stops just before your navel and one that goes down slightly farther to cover part of your belly. Depending upon your dress and body type you should look for one that flatters your shape, holds you in and creates curves in all of the right places.

Some long line bras have built in garter belts (those strappy things that hang down from the bottom of the bra). If you are wearing thigh highs you can connect the straps to the stockings to keep them in place. But they can hurt, and cause indentation marks.

As for a slip, petticoat or crinoline, this depends upon the style of your dress and how full a look you want to achieve. Some dresses have built in petticoats and therefore you do not need any additional material. When you went to the store to try your dress on what did they use? Once you know that then you will know what to purchase.

See now, my dress maker told me that I don't need a bra for the corset back, that its actually right in the dress. She said with the corset back, 'you' and these are her words 'put your chest as you want it to look and then the person putting it on pulls it tighter and viola! Perfect bra'

I had cups sown in so no bra for me, which is alot better in my opinion because I always had problems with strapless. I would lose the corset if it is an option, too much more stuff under you. the crinolin already has a slip under it, and once again, the less the better.

But like they said, the more you have to hide...

I am going to get cups sewn in too if possible. Though I do need to find where to get a corset, thigh highs and such.

For Bra: I would go to Georgette's in Hicksville and explain the dress to them - they're so wonderful!! They'll fit you exactly and give you just what you need for the dress.

As far as the slip goes, I'm not really sure. I know a number of girls got theirs on ebay because it was so much cheaper but any bridal salon will carry them.

I have a corset backed dress and I am not going to even wear a bra. Maybe get cups sewn in for some extra 'oomph' but thats it.

yeah I was thinking the same thing.

I bought my slip (crinoline) overseas. It's blue (my something blue) and that's the only place I could find it.
