I can't believe this

Original post by Bride2012

If I haven't gone crazy I am now. About a month and a half I booked my hall/wedding and my dad bugged out. My dad called me today and needed to talk to me. Him and my mom came over. They went to Cresthollow Country Club which was on top of my list. They put a deposit and want me to get married there because they want me to have everything and more on my wedding!?! I don't know what to do?!?! I have contracts ( with other vendors) for Saturday night and they put a deposit for Saturday day. Oh and they offered to pay for the hall....Couldn't they have done this two months ago??? What should I do???

unless you cancel your hall TODAY (3-1-12) then your 6 month mark is out the window....

why would you parents do this?? i dont understand, didnt they know how much you already had booked? I would stand firm w your hall.

They are controlling and manipulative. But they said they want me to have the wedding of my dreams. I started booking everything two months ago. I have been engaged almost 2 years!!! Hello!!!

if you want a night wdding, why not just pay the difference in price if CHCC still has it available? it's a really nice gift your parents are giving you by booking the hall but are they going to pay the whole bill?

might only be like a $20pp difference from a saturday day to saturday night and so it might be worth it if its that important to you

I was thinking the same thing. Its a good idea. I'm going Saturday to talk to the guy and check the place out again.

It's a wonderful thing your parents are looking to do for you but why can't they just pay for the venue you already booked? From what I've been told you have up until 6 months before the wedding to get like all but $100 back from your deposit if you do decide to cancel your current venue. Check the fine print on your contract. I know my sister switched venues and when they tried saying she was going to lose her whole deposit my mother called the BBB and they got it all back but $100 bc it was 6 plus months prior to the date.

Good luck with your decision!

what is the BBB?? sorry to barge in but i have to cancel my contract at westbury manor and im afraid im going to loose the whole deposite :( so im trying to figure out a way of what I can do to not loose all of it.

Better Business Bureau. I would read your contract as well. How much did you put down? When is your wedding? If its 6 months away you are entitled to it!

I don't think that law includes Nassau County though does it?

Really? That I'm not sure of. But I would look at your contract. But sometimes the halls contracts are stricter than the laws of ny.

Did you make a decision on the venue???

Re: I can't believe this

Yeah, I well my parents kind of decided for me. Cresthollow Country Club. I feel horrible about it tho. My parents are excited tho so that is a positive! Don't get me wrong I love the place just very different venues. I wanted to have night wedding and be the only bride and my two must haves are not satisfied. Oh well.

on the contract it says the downpayment is retained by the cateror as in account for damages..so im guessing i don't get it back, but if that law is vallid in nassau as well, and my wedding is over a year and a half away then maybe i have a shot...dunno :(
