I didn't know dental school was a requirement!

Does anyone else feel like getting pricing info from vendors is like pulling teeth? I'm trying to plan this from out of state and I'm unable to fly back to NY. I've been calling florists and photographers whenever I can---most of them have been less then helpful. What is up with that? Some of them are down right rude. And people wonder where the bad reputation of NY comes from. The other thing is that I get the distinct impression that they ask you where the wedding is going to be first so that they can alter the price. Just venting..sorry...but am I crazy or has anyone else felt like this????

I'm with you balilove! I am planning from out of state too and sometimes I feel like no one understands. Particularly some vendors. That said, I have dealt with some who have been INCREDIBLE and very understanding of my situation and I would be more than happy to share those names. Truth be told, one of my criteria for selecting vendors is that they understand that I can't just hop in my car and be somewhere on LI in 10 minutes and that I can't make appointments on, say, Wednesday nights.

Where are you planning from, out of curiosity?

No I have emailed a number of vendors about price ranges to get an idea of where I want to look when my FH is home because we will be tight on time and all they tell me is why don't you come in look and we can discuss it then. It can be frustrating

I am totally with you balilove. although, like alison, if they are not understanding, i just don't have time for them! but it can be infuriating. if one more person says i need to make an appointment to come in, well so now i am making all these vendors meet with me the day after christmas. sorry charlie, that's when i am there!

That must be real hard planning a wedding out of state. Yes, some vendors will NOT discuss prices over the phone They want you to go to them.
I guess the reason they ask the location is that if they are a house vendor for a certain hall, they they will cut you a deal sometimes.

maybe tell them when you call you read about them on LIWeddings and maybe they'll be a bit nicer

I have dealt with this repeatedly. It is so infuriating. Some of them are incredibly rude. But so far, the ones that I have booked are so nice and great to deal with, so at least this process has weeded out all of the nasty vendors Hang in there.

I think I might be meeting with vendors on the 23rd. I would rather just spend time with my family while I am on LI, but a bride's got to have a limo
