I don't see one, so I thought I'd start one - Food Log

Original post by stephanielyse

I find that I'm less likely to cheat when I have to make every bit of food I eat known.

So far today:
1 peach soy yogurt with a big handful of granola
3 small lemon poppy cookies (I'm about to eat those!)
Leftover calzone from last night (about 1/4 of the full one, chock full 'o spinach)
I'm currently making my way through a mini pack of nerds. Oops.
Salad with FF dressing
Granola bar
'chicken' burger (veggie chicken)
leftovers from my 'healthy' rice krispy treats

Water:
60oz

I'll update throughout the day.
Everyone join in!

I have some questions on some foods on here that I would like to try?

1) Tofurkey slices--who sells that? Any supermarket or I would have to get it at a specialty store?

2) What is a health rice krispy treat? How do you make that w/ brown rice? Are marshmellows involved??

3) What is steel cut oatmeal?? Who sells that also?

Thanks.........I usually go to Stop and Shop, and I cant find any of these things.........

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A HEALTHY RICE CRISPY TREAT!!!

Steel cut oatmeal looks like the attached. they sell it at stop and shop in the oatmeal section. IT is healthy oatmeal, as clean as can be. it is the best stuff on earth!! I live by it. I have it almost every morning, and for an after workout carb. it takes a long time to cook, so I soak it overnight.

I've heard bad things about soy recently. You seam to eat it often. Just curious, how much soy and/or tofu do you eat per day?

Snowboardgirl, do you eat tofu and/or soy? Or do you try to stay away from both and replace your protein with other foods? Do you drink milk? Soy milk? Or just regular Skim?

I avoid soy for a protein source. There have been numerous articles written on the possible unhealthy effects of soy products. It is in everything, but processed soy like soy protein isolate isn't good for you, so they say. I stick with whey protein as a supplement for right after my workouts. I eat fish, chicken, lean meat, beans, nuts and fat free dairy like cottage cheese to get my protein in for the day. I avoid bars, and all those claimed 'healthy' protein meal replacements. fermented soy and tofu is ok occasionally.

her is a link about soy...

Well - remember, I'm a vegan, but I don't eat a lot of soy, as I stay away from overprocessed foods - so anything that has a lot of processing, chemicals, etc - even tofurkey slices - I have been avoiding because I don't feel as good as when I eat raw or just have vegetable juices.

However, I am too sick right now to prepare anything, or buy myself anything, and things like soy yogurt are easy to digest right now and readily available in my fridge...

I tend to have 1 soy latte a day - theres the soy there. I have my cereal with rice milk, or will have a glass of it if I'm in the mood for something else besides water, which is the only thing 'll drink.

I will have organic tofu along with broccoli stirfry maybe 3 nights a week. I will also have an occasional boca burger.

Other nights I may have a salad with a sprinkle of shredded soy cheese...

Other than that,I eat mostly raw foods, fruits, and veggies, grains like Quinoa.

The soy I choose is non GMO (meaning not genetically modified) and organic - the stories you hear about are GM soy, which yes, there have been many health factors linked to it.

I try to eat organic whenever possible - organic fruits, vegetables, even the soy cheese I sprinkle on my salad!

I tend to drink fortified OJ with calcium or enriched rice milk for calcium, as there have been studies that the phosphates in milk actually strip your bones of calcium! I was so shocked when I heard that, because you always hear how important milk is for bones...

Good to know! I need to start taking calcium suplements!

Which soy cheese do you use? I like Follow Your Heart brand. It acually melts (sometimes, it's fickle). Also, it's a local company for me, they're based in Southern California. They also have a restaurant and natural food store about 20 minutes from where I live. Mmm.

Soy moon - it has the best taste out of the others... I'm a bad vegan though, because it has casein in it (just can't do vegarella cheese - blech), I may reduce my intake of that too, because after eating it, I don't feel like I'm getting anything out of it energy wise...

I read the article after I posted - I completely agree that people have gone OVERBOARD with soy and all the soy products out there, and it is not healthy to eat that much of it - it's a good way to get protein only if you use non-GMO and organic products... thats the problem is that people are eating poor, cheap, overly-processed food - that can lead to many problems in your body! Soy is porous and can soak up insecticides - like strawberries, which is why there are so many allergies related to them... Same thing with peanuts, which are legumes - they are supposed to be the most carcinogenic of all legumes, but they also absorb the most pesticides from the ground... scary!

I try and eat light and clean - of course, I'm hardly the spokeswoman now with the flu - but normally I am very healthy and active - and theres a reason people think I'm 24, and not 32 - eating organic is great for your skin, and keeps your body supple!

Bad vegan! I'm telling! I totally feel your pain - FYH is the only vegan cheese I've had that didn't suck. Oh, and Tofutti slices (I THINK they're vegan...) that were plentiful in our grocery store for like a month never to be seen again.

Those tofutti slices were too processed for me - bothered my IBS! Thats the number one indicator that something is overprocessed and isn't good for me - my tummy lets me know shortly after!

Thanks for the info! You seem like a very healthy individual!

I try to eat as clean as possible as much as my busy schedule allows. you can only get so much healthy food at penn station and a local deli on wall street!

We do have a great food market near work which sells a lot of organic foods. So expensive, though!!!

Well - I try to be healthy - thats not to say that I don't eat a HUGE bag of those 'organic' blue chips now and again... or indulge in french fries once in a while (LOVE french fries!)

As for expensive - YES - VERY expensive.... Which is so frustrating! My entire family has had or have heart disease, diabetes, and cancer... I was overweight as a child and am commited to eating healthfully and take good care of myself - and you can get all this crap from KFC or BK from a 99 cent menu, but if I want to get a fresh vegetable juice, its $7.00!

3. Green juice - consisting of kale, spinach, broccoli, celery... with apple to cut the bitterness, and ginger for my stomach

4. Decaf soy latte

5. saltines and raw almond butter

6. Soy yogurt
