What is with people wearing all black to a wedding? I don't get it. A wedding is supposed to be a happy occassion and so far I see so many people wearing black and I am the only person wearing something colorful. To me, black is for funerals, not for a wedding (unless it's black tie of course).
What am I missing? Am I wrong for asking my guests not to wear all black for my wedding? All this black is just so damn depressing.
I should note, my wedding is on a friday at 3pm.

I have to disagree with you. I love wearing black- I think it is so elegant and sophisticated. I think everyone should have thier 'little black dress'. I was going to get bm's dresses in black but my mil and friends thought we should get a color for pics. I know most people feel more confident wearing black.
I feel its your wedding and you have the right to not like people to wear black but I've seen it @ most events I go to.

I think a lady wearing a black gown to a night wedding is perfectly normal. If it were a day time afternoon wedding, or a casual wedding than it might be different.

Black makes me feel thin. I also think you can't go wrong with it. Black is a very classy color.

agreed..
But for an afternoon affair, I would expect to see more color.. Daytime attire is different than nightime- although some dresses can be worn to either.

I would have to say that it is wrong to ask them not to wear black. I don't think there is anything wrong with it now.

I agree! Black is a very slimming color and it is my favorite for weddings.

All black in my opinion is great and all of my great friends ( i am in there bridal parties) they all pick either black or black and white. it looks really nice and rich in pictures. and as a guest who does not like wearing there little black dress.

You really can't tell people what to wear other than trying to specify the formality. If they wear black you'll just have to get over it, but I think since you're having an afternoon affair you will see plenty of color too. I wouldn't worry about it too much. It will be a beautiful affair no matter what color people are wearing!

I would rather they come in black than let's say, Laura Ashley.....my bridal party is wearing black dresses, and so is my mother-- (no offense to Laura Ashley ladies-)

I agree with Nov.Bride 100%! I'd rather all my guests where all black. It's super elegant and I don't always agree with people who wear bright stand-out colors to a wedding -- I think its flashy!

I don't know about that...I've been in BP's where we wore black, and I've seen the mom's wear black. I do think however, that black is totally fine to wear at a wedding..and it's become totally commonplace!

Black is the most elegant color to wear to a wedding. Where have you been? Black is so popular now that even Bridesmaids are wearing them. And no black is not only for funerals, in some cultures Red and white are for funerals.

It's very common to wear black at an evening affair.
In my culture, black is worn for funerals as well. However, times have changed and it has become very common to wear all black to functions. I've done it myself many times. I think it looks sleek and sexy.
I wouldn't specify what color my guests should not be wearing unless it was black tie.

I just wore a strapeless black dress to a day wedding this past Saturday. I received quite a few compliments too.
What dont you understand? It is the most neutral color and the most flattering too. Black can be slinky and sexy or sophisticated and formal. I love black dresses for a wedding guest.
