I don't understand why people do this!!!

maybe i'm the crazy one - but i always try NOT to wear all black to funerals because i think everyone in a room wearing all black is what makes it depressing.....not a few people here or there in black.

i wear black to weddings all the time.....and i had people wear black to my afternoon wedding....i thought nothing of it - i was just happy to have them there

if you want to get all artistic black is the absorbsion of all colors so really you are wearing all colors.
It is NY what does everyone expect. i love black. my mom is wearing black to my wedding because she does not look good in any specific color.

Oh well. I guess I will sit at the table alone then with my non-black dress. I guess I just feel that black is a depressing color to wear to a wedding, whether it's slimming or not. But I wonder if its just a NY thing, cause I have seen a lot of photos of weddings not in NY and there was a lot less black.

I don't wear black to weddings. For a few reasons.
1- everyone else does
2- I used to wear a lot of black ona daily basis, so I liked something different to dress up
3- I like the old fashioned rules of no black, white or red at weddings.

I usually wear a dark color, navy, brown, plum, burgendy.

I know people are wearing black to our wedding. FH's aunt ( our reader) & 2 close frends have mentioned it.

I 'd prefer if FH's aunt didn't , but I think like the others, she finds it elegant & slimming.

I do not own 'a little black dress'
although in HS I had a black dress I loved & wore to all the sweet 16s!

But for an afternoon affair, I would expect to see more color.. Daytime attire is different than nightime- although some dresses can be worn to either.

Couldn't put it better myself.

The only reason I try not to wear black to weddings is because I don't like to blend in with the crowd...and it also increases the chances of someone else wearing the same dress as me which always bugs me, no matter how shallow.

I really can't say more than anyone else said about it being slimming, people are comfortable in it, and the no black at weddings rule went away long before they said it was okay to wear white after Labor Day...

If you do a search for Rob-luvs-me's wedding pics, there's a picture of about 5 or 6 LIW girls all wearing black except for one...like it was a uniform - myself included

Maybe that and some other things! Red hair and a striking smile doesn't hurt either.

you can never go wrong with a black dress...simple & elegant for all affairs.

I think black is very elegant and classy.
I was a BM at a wedding where we wore black. It was a black tie wedding. It was so beautiful and elegant. I loved it.

If my mother didn't already buy a pink dress for my wedding, I think I would do that.

I think since your wedding is at 3:00pm Friday I can understand why you wouldn't want black. This should be more daytime colors.

But for an evening wedding, I think black is beautiful.

I totally disagree with you. My mom is wearing black and it is so elegant looking.
I think today it is so common to wear whatever color you want and whatever makes you happy.....

LOL! I wouldnt be able to come to your wedding unless I could wear black...Thats all I can remember wearing at the last few...evening ones mostly...I to be honest havent really noticed what people wear other then immediate friends and the bridal party so maybe thats why....

ETA- Im even worse, I told my mom to wear black and silver to my wedding b/c she looks so good in it and yes, some people think I'm nuts , but I dont care what color it is...black is a state of mine, it can look glam and great on some people!
