I didn't really want one either... So don't have one! But I ended up having one anyway and I made sure it was how I wanted it.

I didn't want one either, but my family and bridal party insisted. I decided to make it a FUN bridal shower. It is going to be a Hawaiian/Tropical theme in my Aunt's backyard. POOL PARTY!!!

Certifiable.
No, I'm kidding. Why don't you want a shower? I bet your reasons aren't crazy.

I just have no interest in it. It's something that is only fun for the bride, according to everyone on here. I don't want to sit around opening presents in front of people. And I surely don't want to play any stupid games.

You are NOT crazy. I did not want one either! I really didn't. I begged not to....but I think my mom has planned a small one for a week or two before the wedding. At least it will be small with just friends. But even that bothers me because these are the same people putting $$$ out as bridesmaids for the wedding, bachelorette party and I hate that they have to put in for one more gift.

Have you considred an alternative like a get together at a tea house?
I went to one once - probably VERY expensive - but so cool at Great Adventure!! The bride lived 10 min away & rented out the Granny's Country Kitchen. We had it for 3 hours to eat, open gifts & then we were off to play!! Guest services even stored the gifts for us!

My thoughts exactly... so it ended up being just a bunch of women hanging out eating and chatting, it was nice.

I felt the same way you did. That was one of the reasons, why I ended up going almost 2 hours late. I regret getting there late because I had to open gifts/greet guest/and eat with only 2 hours remaining.
I was rushed. It is a special feeling, you get when you see all your loved one friends/family faces supporting your big celebration. They are all happy for you.
I know for a fact my job is planning a huge/grand bridal shower for me, I have strangers coming up to me on my floor, congratulating me on my furture marriage. They all want to know the date/want to know how I feel. But, because I am so quiet...I am a mystery. But, I really appreciate the hard work everyone is going to put forth when, my celebration day is here.
Enjoy it...It will only be one time!!!!!!

Yeah, that's why I didn't want to have one either. But my family insisted. Mine is tomorrow. I just hope everyone has fun, we ordered some great food.

Re: I don't want a bridal shower!
Well I think I am going to tell my peeps I don't want one. I think instead I am going to request that we all go to STRIKE on Union Turnpike. That would be fun.
EDIT: I just off the phone with FH and he got a real attitude with me for not wanting shower. He is mad because he thinks we won't get any presents and we need some of the stuff on our registry. But he isn't the one who needs to sit there and pretend to be having fun. Ugh! I hate this crap!

what about having a jack and jill party - they end up being more like a cocktail party - and you can open gifts at another time -

You can make it a Jack&Jill shower and make your FH open the gifts! My FSIL did that. It was really funny whe he got to wear the hat with all the ribbons and bows

Why not have a Jack & Jill... it will put the two of you in the hot seat and you still get your presents.
I must be getting old.... not as fast as I used to be.

Re: I don't want a bridal shower!
I also do not want one for several reasons. First, I do not enjoy them- I have never really had fun at other people's showers and can't imagine mine would be much different. I also dread being the center of attention for an extended period of time (didn't really want the big wedding either, but compromised on that.) Second, My FH and I are older and don't really need that much, so whatever we don't get as wedding gifts, we will just buy. Mainly, though, my mom is deceased and I think it will just be way too difficult for me to sit through that event.
FH doesn't really care- just told me to do what I am comfortable with. I am tired of all the people who insist I am 'just saying that' and will change my mind. I know they are saying that to be nice, but it really gets annoying. If you want a shower, I say go for it, but don't pressure me into doing things I really don't want to do.

Re: I don't want a bridal shower!
Just an FYI...I tried the Jack and Jill idea myself...I hate showers......and the older people on FH side and my side of the family stated they would not come if that was what we were having....so now I am having a woman only shower...
Remember Ladies, its not what you want its what everybody else wants...i have learned that over this process...

Sorry to say, but I think FH is right on this one. Not to sound greedy, but you can get most, if not all of your gifts b4 the wedding.
If anything, why don't you impose on a Jack&Jill shower... that way, you're not the only one front & center. It'll be you and your FH.
It's odd that you don't want to sit & pretend to be having fun with people who I'm sure are very happy for you... confusing because aren't you basically doing the same thing for your wedding?

For me it's not about the presents. I don't care if we don't get any presents. It doesn't matter. A bridal shower, to me is just pointless. If people want to send us gifts, just send them. I don't know. I just don't want to sit there and be annoyed. And no, a wedding is a celebration, a bridal shower is just, well, blah.
