I don't want nice but I want honest- about my centerpieces
Original post by ckgmwedding
I am thinking of making these for my wedding but I am starting to think they are tacky. I need honest opinions from girls who I don't chat with everyday. I promise not to be offended- PROMISE!!! And yes, I have a lighthouse theme.

I think they are very cute and different but maybe instead of using them as a centerpiece on each table, you can use them as decoration for the cocktail hour, or on the place card table, or something like that so you can still get the formal look you want, but the very cute lighthouses as well!
good idea!!!! use them for the cocktail hour...what if you did that then had hurricane lamps as your centerpieces for the reception with the sand and beach glass around those... you can also try laterns... i have seen some really cool centerpieces made from them!

Great idea! I also have boats for the bathroom baskets so that would work.
Now I have to find the money to get more centerpieces!!

First of all, I don't think they are tacky but I'm wondering if they are a little bit too casual? yet again I don't know how formal your wedding is going to be. And also good job because you are very creative.

I think it is great. You know what, practically every wedding has flowers, and as you said you want to be different, and stand out so everybody remembers you wedding. I say go for it. Whatever your other concerns are change them such as maybe white votive candles but other then that it is great and there is nothing wrong with homemade. Remember flowers die, but this won't. Not tacky at all since it is your theme. More power to you for wanting to be different.

thank you all of you 06 brides for your absolute honesty. I really wanted it and I appreciate it. It is so easy to click- they are great!- its harder to be frank and tell how you feel.
Here is my somewhat decision that I made based on everyone's input- I think they are too informal for the wedding so I am adding more candles, frosted votives with white candles, and possibly ditching the sand and shells for petals. I really love my lighthouses, they just need to be more formal.
I really do love you girls for all your help and assistance. I really didn't want it to be like a wedding centerpiece (I'm 35 and also bragged I was never getting married!!!!)and those of you that posted I should go for it gave me courage!!!
You are all wonderful brides- thanks 06 board!!!
BTW- Any other suggestions or input, still welcomed!!!

I LOVE IT. I THINK THAT IT IS REALLY CREATIVE AND VERY DIFFERENT. IT IS NOT EASY TO ADD PERSONAL TOUCHED TO ALOT OFF CP'S. I'M TRYING TO THINK OF THINGS TO DO FOR MY THEME. GREAT JOB

So you like the lighthouse theme.. but want something a little more elegant and candles... why not do a large hurricane in the center of the table.. find a stencil of a lighthouse that you love (or a template on line, a picture anything..).... and buy that frosted glass spraypaint ... this way.. you get the look of etched glass-which is elegant.. and your lighthouse-which you love.. but neither is overpowering ... you could surround the hurricane with the sand again.. and place smaller votives or even lower tealights in the sand.. add a few shells like you have in the pic...it would be a classy take on your theme.. and the candlelite which would soften it all up! Hope it helps... Good luck!

I like the centerpiece and agree that you should take away the marbles. I think adding some flowers (not too many) and candles would make it look more elegant. I love that you created your own centerpieces and defintely feel that this will make your wedding more special. It takes a lot of creativty to come up with this!!

Hi!
I like them but not terribly. If they work with your theme, I'd go for them....But maybe add a touch of hydrangea (like low square vases) or maybe white votives instead of the color ones. I'm not crazy about the sand all over the tabele and the blue rocks.
But take my advice with a grain of salt because I am addicted and obsessed with flowers!
