I know it means ALOT to FH though, so I will be changing it. Honestly though, I LOVE my last name and have grown quite attached to it in the last 24 years. I will be sad to see it go.
Anyone else?

Re: I don't want to.....
I have had my name a long time too. I have 2 sisters and a brother so the name will go on with my brother. However, I know that if I did not have a brother and my father were still with us, he would expect me to take the name of my husband. Knowing how traditional men tend to be with these things, I can't imagine that a father would feel any sense of betrayal if his daughter assumed the last name of her husband. Regardless of who I marry or how long I am married, I was born Leslie C and I will die Leslie C in my heart and that is enough for me.

No problem changing my name to his.... my brothers have done a great job of passing the name along to 13 neices and nephews.... and a new one baking in the oven as we speak :)

Re: I don't want to.....
My only hesitance about taking his last name is that right now including the preggo SIL, after I get married, the family name dies. My brothers have been nothing but girl producers!!!
But I know it means a lot for my FH to take his last name, and I like that my initials will become JJ, although I'm not crazy about the fact that my name will end up sounding like a porn star!!!

Re: I don't want to.....
I have mixed feelings about it and I haven't come to a final decision yet. On one hand, I want to take his last name so when we start a family, we all have the same name. On the other hand, I want to hold onto my given last name as I too have had it quite a long time. It also is very Italian and I'm proud of my heritage. In the end it's going to be up to me since in FH's culture, it is not necessary for the woman to change her name and he won't be offended or upset if I don't.

Re: I don't want to.....
Not me.. I absolutely LOVE my last name. It actually goes nice with Janie.. eww. When I get married Im going to have a last name that noone can pronounce...or spell right and definately dont sound good with my first name. But being that Im marrying a very traditional Italian guy, he would get offended if I didn't take his last name. Needless to say, I have no choice. Changing my name is the only thing I actually DONT look forward to and prob the one thing I will cry about come my wedding day. Yes.. it bothers me that much!!

This is a totally personal decision, if you want to keep your name and FH is okay with that, then you should do it.

My new last name will be smaller but only because his grandparents changed it.

I'm looking forward to changing my name since nobody can ever pronounce mine.
