i know what u mean. i love the idea of taking his name, but i am a teacher. my last name is short and simple, and his is long and difficult. when i mention it to fh he seems bothered by it, so i just tell myself there are so many other things to stress about!

In my heart, I do not want to also, so I feel your pain.

Lately, tho, I've been getting all sentimental about US having the SAME name...like really being a family. I've been trying to get excited about it by writing it down and thinking of getting a soon to be mrs. sweatsuit.

but then i'll have times when i get sad. love my name, love writing my initials at the end of emails.

So, I guess add me to the list of being mixed with my feelings on this.

change my last name

I know it means ALOT to FH though, so I will be changing it. Honestly though, I LOVE my last name and have grown quite attached to it in the last 24 years. I will be sad to see it go.

I agree...and I've had my name a few years longer than you've had yours. Although, my name isn't terribly easy but neither is his. It's like giving up your identity though. Seems unfair to me that the guys don't have to do something similar.

i'm taking his but it starts with the same initial as my first name. it's a bit of a tongue twister. ahhhh well.

i love him and it means a lot to him. plus i hate my last name as it is

I am sure you will get used to it.

I am so excitd to take his last name and officially be our own little family.

Girl, I know what you mean b/c I am proud of my very Italian last name!!!! And now my last name will be very Irish. Can't get more irish than Murphy!!!
But I love Murphy b/c I love him!!!

I want to change my last name-- I want us all to have the same last name- 3 of us with all diff last names-- so he is going to adopt my daughter once all is done

I will be hypenating ...i am an only child and want to carry on my fathers name- also, i am proud of my ethnic heritage and want to keep that with me, fh has a typical spanish last name and I am proud to take it as mine, but i am not willing to loose my identity with it, it doesnt mean we arent a family and it doesnt mean i love him any less, to each his own i guess

I don't want to change mine either. I like it and it has been my name for a very long time. It is tied to my identity. I also don't like the idea that just because I am the one with a complete set of chromosomes that I have the be the one to go through the identity change. Also, I have publications under my name, so I can't change my name professionally without a MAJOR explaination. I work in a field where very few married women change their names. I have a PhD, so I won't be 'Mrs. Anything' anyway.

I wouldn't change my name at all except that I have heard horror stories of moms and kids with different last names having issues with all of the new security stuff, such as a mom being hassled about taking her kids on a plane because they had different last names (all complicated by the fact that the dad had paid for the tickets but was not traveling).

Anyhoo, I will officially hyphenate, use my name at work, and also have his name which will be the last name of our future children.

As an aside, I had a huge identity crisis when my brother got married because my SIL changed her last name. We have the same first name, so now we have the same name!!!! It was very difficult for me....

I just saw this - but I'm glad I'm not alone. It's that mix.. But as you see today, I did get a 'soon to be' sweatshirt and I am so happy to be wearing it and can't wait to show to FH!

I'm changing mine, I've never liked the way my first and last names sounded together -- very sing-song-y. Besides, I've always secretly wanted to be Italian!

i understand i love my last name to and mine sounds good with my first name - i love hi last name but its so long and doesnt sound well with my first name - but i love him with all my heart and love his family with all my heart so i am changing my name b/c i know it would hurt my FH and his family if i didnt. i've been trying to practice signing my name though and it needs alot of work.

That is a wonderful reason to change your name. Congratulations!

I too am going to change my name so that I can move up to a 'C' from the end of the alphabet.

If I were famous, it would be a different story.

I'm kinda sad about it too. My last name was 1 syllable. Now its 3 and its confusing. Its not spoken the way its written. It's real hard and long But it's my hunnys and I can't hyphenate it because it's already too long. So that's what Im doing.
