I don't want to.....

change my last name

I know it means ALOT to FH though, so I will be changing it. Honestly though, I LOVE my last name and have grown quite attached to it in the last 24 years. I will be sad to see it go.

Anyone else?

Not me!! I'm looking forward to taking my FH's name. It's nice and easy to pronounce, plus I'll be moving up in the alphabet!!

Well even though my last name sounds much better with my first name then his does - its doesnt bother me at all to change it ...but i will tell you why my parents arent together anymore -my mom is re married and has a new last name and i havent seen my farther since i was 4 so my last name as no meaning to me but my FH of course does so i am very happy to take it

i actually have a last name that gets mis-pronounced constantly, is hard to spell and is more ethnic than i look
i cant wait to change into something easy to spell, pronounce and write!

i know what u mean. i love the idea of taking his name, but i am a teacher. my last name is short and simple, and his is long and difficult. when i mention it to fh he seems bothered by it, so i just tell myself there are so many other things to stress about!

I don't want to change mine either. I have been married before, I really just wanted to go back to my maiden name and keep it forever...sick of revovling name door. Just hope this one sticks I guess, LOL

FH never married before, means A LOT to him, so....through the dorr i go.

I actually can not wait to change my name either. My first name ends in a vowel and my last name starts with a vowel - so it's very difficult to say and still sound cool.

OMG! Totally hate my last name - no one ever pronounces it correctly and it's only three letters!

Plus, FI's last name is Viola - how pretty! LOL

What about hypenating???

I'm a teacher so everyone calls me by my last name. It's going to feel weird having everyone call me Ms. AXXXX instead of Ms. VXXX. Other than that I have no attachment to my current last name.

I just posted on NWR that I am adding my maiden name as a second middle name and taking FH's last name as my new surname. There will be no hyphen. I think it complicates things. So I get to keep all of my names and use the 2 middle names as I see fit. My last name is most definitely identifiable as Jewish. His last name is identifiable Russian. I told him that people will think we are either KGB or makers of fine vodka.

They will get over it and get used to it...

I can;t wait to change my last name..its 10 letters and so annoying!!

Same here, and I wonder if I'll even realize that they're calling me when they say my new last name....

Mine is short and simple (but gets mis-pronounced and mis-spelled quite frequently) and FI's is long and get mis-spelled, but I can't wait to have it as my new last name. I'm very proud of it.

In my heart, I do not want to also, so I feel your pain.

Lately, tho, I've been getting all sentimental about US having the SAME name...like really being a family. I've been trying to get excited about it by writing it down and thinking of getting a soon to be mrs. sweatsuit.

but then i'll have times when i get sad. love my name, love writing my initials at the end of emails.

So, I guess add me to the list of being mixed with my feelings on this.

I am with you- I don't like his so much- he doesn't either- we both like mine better-
he jokes that he is going to change his- but I am traditional

Absolutely! It's part of my identity because nearly no one else shares it. FH totally understands. He knows that I want to be published under my given last name.
