I don't want to have a 'traditional' bridal shower.. Anyone else?
I would rather have a small luncheon for my bridal shower. I don't want to be surprised. I want to greet all my guests when they come in. I am getting mixed reactions from family and friends. Anyone else not doing the tradiotional bridal shower?

I know that my fiancee and I are not having strippers at our respective parties. My best man had planned a baseball game and dinner. So something along those lines sounds like what you are planning.
If I think of anything I'll let you know.
Best wishes,
Thomas

I dont want a shower at all. I've told my BMs and MOH that I dont want one - and I hope they respect that. I'd much rather just go out for a quite lunch wiht my girlfriends - and they dont have to bring any presents!

I could do with out it, but i knwo it woudl meana lot to my grandmotehr & mom & aunts,. I would prefer just to hang outt with the female relaitves & maybe friends if they wanted too , but they all hate showres & I alwyas skip them so I wouldn't be offended if they didnt' coem. I'm hoping to have the opportunity to drop those hints though.
It doesn't need to be big or a surprise. and probably not involve shower games.
I feel weird sitting around opening gifts, but my family is big on gifts.

I feel the same way as tourist. Never had an interest in going to them - not even my own. The reaction from my family was mixed, and the older female relatives expected it.
I think it's more than fine to do a small luncheon or something, sounds great actually!
That said, my shower was this weekend, it was nice, not too painful at all!

I had a shower....and there were presents...but I knew when and where it was. I greeted everyone as they came in. Some people thought it was a surprise....but there was not mention of it being a surprise on the invite. We didn't have any games...no silly ribbon hat. It was just lunch...and I opened my gifts. We had about 22 people...it was very nice. Hope that helps.

A friend of mine had a bridal tea instead of a traditional shower.

I really would have liked to have a Jack and Jill shower b/c we didn't have an engagement party and FH wanted to celebrate also - but I don't want one anymore because that means more people and a different focus and I don't think that is fair to my bridesmaids. I would like a traditional shower - I feel like I want everything that every bride does because you only do this once! I don't care if it is in someone's house- I'm not high-maintenance. I hope I am surprised because I feel like I am never surprised!!
One of my BM's in on this board - I wonder if she'll see this!

Its your wedding you should have what you want. I'd think people would be open to having a small shower- less $$.

We are hoping that we have a 'Jack and Jill' shower. My FH want tools and stuff and WE want the other traditional stuff. More a BBQ/hang out thing. However, since we are not in charge of that part, who knows.
