I Feel Like Crying Right Now

Original post by violet

I wanted to switch my ceremony to 3pm while my reception is at 7:30pm which I can't make earlier, and I'm getting married on a Friday. I wanted it earlier b/c I want to get pictures after when it's still light. I really don't want to do pictures beforehand. I don't know, it's just important to me to see my FI for the first time in the church. And now I told one friend this, and she was like it's your day, but it's a lot of time in between for people who go to the ceremony. I told another friend who I'm not even very close with b/c I asked what time he was doing his at since it'll be dark for his, and he was like well that sucks, that's so much time in between for guests, why can't you do it before the ceremony? He was like whatever, that's too much time for me. I feel like people are going to be upset over this, and that I either can't get pictures when it's light out, or I'll have to forget about seeing John for first time in church which I really want, and have to see him before for pictures. I don't know what to do.

Don't fret!! Firstly, it is your day you can do what you like!!! Are you having a cocktail hour? if so your guest would not mind the time as long as the can eat and drink. My wedding is at 2p.m, cocktail hour is at 4p.m and the reception will start at 5p.m. i will be taking pictures right after the ceremony and i did not want my guest to go hungry so that's why we did the cocktail hour.

I was going to say the same thing as LIMOM....you can always ask someone to stay at home and serve light food and refreshemnts and put this on program so people know......but usually people go back home - if you are worried about the OOT guests than I would reccommend inviting everyone back to your families home OR you can see if a hotel nearby would do this for you.......if you blocked rooms n a spcific hotel they may do this for a fee......you can ask the hotel if tey can do anything like this for you......GOOD LUCK! IfI were you, I would do what you want, people will support you and you always have one or two that complain about everything - You can't please everyone and you should definately do what you want to do on your special day!!

Good Luck again!!!

were having a 4 hour gap after the church is over before the reception because we want to take pictures in daylight(i have the weekend before you, and remember being so upset when i found out how early daylight is) when we made it a big time gap everyone liked, that they could go home. ..

are you planning on a full mass? because a 3pm mass with receiving line is like 415 end and youd have less than a half hour before sunset...
if you want daylight it should be earlier than three...more like 2

don't worry about the break! i have the same situation, my ceremony will be at 3, reception starts at 6:30. i have gotten grief from certain people about this break but there is nothing i can do about it.

i have been to wedding with a break and i actually like it because it gives me more time to relax and catch up with friends...weddings are like reunions for the guests anyway. i'd say, do what you want and don't worry about the guests. they are adults and can handle a few hours on their own!!

good luck, it will be fine!

Violet: what is more important to you....seeing your FI for the first time in the church or having your pictures taken in the light of daytime? I think you had mentioned it before and I might have suggested to you to take the pictures before the wedding but if you feel weird about the big time gap....take the pictures after the wedding at Leonards - do they have a nice foyer to take pictures in? Do they have nice grounds? I'm sure either they have adequate lighting to take pix at night if they have nice grounds. If not ask your photographer to bring lighting with him/her. I think it's kinda romantic to have the pix taken at nighttime outside. And the weather can be like it is tonight..not too cold but not to hot.

Please don't cry, it's not worth it to be upset over this. You're getting married to the man you love! Nothing should hamper that!

ETA: I think gaps b/t wedding and reception are more common now. I mean Churchs are so strict about who gets married where and all that sometimes that you have to settle on a certain time. And if your hall can't have your reception start earlier then what are you going to do? Most LI'ers I think have been to weddings where there are gaps. Like LIMOM said maybe someone can entertain the OOT's at their house or your parents house or your FMIL's house or something. I mean what are you going to do if your church can only marry you at a certain time and the hall can't open for you until a certain time. Churches and halls don't coordinate with each other so you take the best that you can! Seriously don't worry about it.....you can do the pix when it's darker out or you can move the wedding back or up or whatever you want to do and if your friend is going to complain then that's his problem. Talk to FH and your parents and his and see if they think many will be inconveinanced. Probaby not. All will work out

people are FUC$#%$^ AS@$#%$^...its your wedding..if you dont want to see your FH before hand, then DONT!!!! I have been to so many weddings where the ceremony is early and the reception is later, its common, we know about it, so we find things to do, that why bars exist!!! I m so sorry that people are giving you are a hard time. People lose track of the fact that its YOUR WEDDING, its a once in alifetime thing, ITS ONE day, if they have to hang out for a few hours in bewteen, SO WHAT!!!!! You do whats best for you, if your guests cant entertain themselves for a few hours in between, that their problem. ( Im sorry if I sound mean, I just feel bad for you!!) Dont settle!!!

Re: I Feel Like Crying Right Now

Honestly, now I am just confused about what to do. Look at how this month was, it was raining so much. It could just as well be raining for my wedding day next year or freaking cold considering I'll be wearing a strapless dress, and this early ceremony could be for nothing. If I'm going to have to worry about it causing grief for people, I don't know if it's worth it. I'll definitely ask the photographer if they have lighting so that I can take pictures outside in the dark. And I will be taking pictures inside at Leonard's and at the church.

My FI's mother offered for people to come to her house after the church, but what if a lot of people come to ceremony? It might be too much.

I won't be having a mass, so with a 3pm ceremony, I'd have plenty of enough time of light to take pictures. Ah I never thought about this. I had the option to do it in August, but I passed that b/c I don't like really hot weather, but I wouldn't have to worry about this if I did.
