Ladies, please tell me if I am wrong because I am pissed and feel robbed!
I had my first Hair & Make Up trial tonight. I booked it last week. She said yes my date is open, yes travelling to Ronkonkama is fine, yes she can do bridemaids hair, mothers hair, etc, yes getting you ready for 10am is fine.
She calls to confirm today. And in hindsight I should I have seen somthing coming because her only question was 'What time do you need to be ready again?' and 'I'll see you tonight.'
So I get there, in her house, in curlers and she says. 'How far is Ronkonkama from here? How about if I get there at like 5:30am so you 'll be ready to go by 7am.' My head is spinning, ready 5 hours before my ceremony, doesn't seem like good idea. But she goes on ' I just found out my niece is getting married the same day and wants me to do her hair. I'd have to be in LIC for 10 or so. I wondered if I should cancel you, but I can do both.'
EXCUSE ME! You can do both! I cannot be sitting there ready to go 5 HOURS BEFORE my ceremony, hoping everything holds up at least into the reception. Not to mention you clearly can't do anyone elses hair due to the time restrant.
So I let her finish, played nice, took photos, paid ($110 gone) and left.
I didn't know what to do. FH was pissed, said I should have told her to stop, and left without paying. I couldn't though, I was so uncomfortable and in her house.
Am I wrong thinking this is incredibly unprofessional? I feel she should have at least mentioned this when she called to confirm, or even right when I got there. Not after she started. I feel like she just decided she need the cash and screw me.
I am trying to be positive, (my pics are in the album), she seemed competant and I can use them for ideas. At least I know what to ask immediately before my next trial. Are you REALLY free that day or you just need $ today.

Not to play devil's advocate or anything, but if she can really have you ready by 7am, it's not a bad thing. Lots of brides are ready five hours before the ceremony. I wanted to be, nearly. If she can get all your BP ready by then, think of this--you'll actually have time to do your photos beforehand. I wanted to be ready by 8:30 for my 11:30 wedding. We weren't, and ended up not having almost any time for formal photography. If you're ready at 7am, you have the chance to take some amazing photos, including sunrise shots, probably.
Yes, she should have told you upfront. But still, I don't think it's such a bad idea. I wish I had that time before my wedding to travel somewhere and take photos. Now I'm thinking of doing at later bridal shoot to get the shots I missed.
I think thats part of the reason I stayed. I startedt hinking it might not be so bad (what else could I think about without being mad). But I know me, and I'd be a disaster within 2 hours.

No so much as it is unprofessional, but do you really want to be rushed on your wedding day so she can make it back to LIC in time to do her niece's ?

I had my hair and make up at 10 am and my ceremony was at 3pm and reception at 6pm. My hair and makeup lasted all night.

Re: I feel Robbed! Hair and Make up
But wait... did you like your hair & makeup? That's more important than anything. If you loved the way you looked, who cares when she does it! I kind of think it would be great to get it out of the way so you are not rushed. The 5:30 am part sux though...
And I am with the other bride - my hair & makeup lasted all day & night. I woke up with the next day with a perfect updo. If you liked her work, reconsider using her. OR tell her to do her niece at 5:30 am and THEN do you...?
ETA - call Kasey at Khouloud's (vendor on here). She did my hair & makeup & was awesome.

Re: I feel Robbed! Hair and Make up
If she made you feel uncomfortable, then its not worth it! Im sure there are other places out there where you wont feel like that! I will probably be getting ready 5 hours earlier too, but the point is that you should feel comfortable!
Good luck!

Re: I feel Robbed! Hair and Make up
I would NOT have paid her!!! Actually, you should call and ask for your money back. Tell her that you appreciate her willing to try to squeeze you in, but that isn't what you envisioned for your wedding day... It's not like she is doing your hair for free!!! you are paying her!!!!

Re: I feel Robbed! Hair and Make up
Something similar happened to me. I made an appointment for a hair trial with my normal hair stylist who I love. After my trial, I made an appointment for 10am on my wedding and when I got home the salon called and wanted to change the appointment to 6:00 AM. ( My wedding was at 3:00) They said they didn't realize they had another wedding that morning. I was really mad but I said okay because I loved my hair trial and I didn't want to have to pay for another one. The other bride must of cancelled because a month before my wedding they were able to change it back to 10am. Before they schedule you for a hair trial, the salon needs to let you know what appointments they already have scheduled for your wedding day. If you were very happy with your trial I would keep the appointment. If not get your money back and hire someone else. Good Luck!

Wow...I am so sorry that happened to you. I bet you would have dealt if you were told BEFORE you got there!
You should demand your money back, or at least part of it!
