I feel sad!

I feel sad!

It seems to be that every Sunday night I can't sleep b/c I am regretting going back to work on Monday. So now I am sitting here at my desk (for 2 hours and have done nothing) and feeling really down b/c I really just don't want to be here. This is getting really bad. I know this means that I should start looking for a new job but I think that may be hard with the wedding less than 5 months away. How would I be able to get the time off I needed for the wedding on a new job? Plus, I have stock options that I am not sure if I should walk away from.

Thanks for letting me vent. Sorry this was so long.

I know how you feel - but honestly I would say stick it out til after the wedding. It would be too much for you in my opinion to go through all of that right now.

I am sorry you are sad If you can, try to stick it out until after the wedding. Changing jobs in the midst of wedding planning might be too much stress to take.

I get the SAME way on Sunday nights - really sad and anxious about the workweek beginning again .. I waste our entire Sunday evenings being stressed about Monday morning, its ridiculous! I am burnt out commuting into NYC and just bored with what I do .. but really with 2 1/2 months until my wedding, I cannot make a career change at this time.

Try to hang in there ..

I feel the same way. I love my 'job' but I don't like my company. I am looking for another job for after the wedding. It doesn't hurt to start looking now incase soemthing really awesome comes up. But if I was you I would wait until after the wedding.

I am right there with you. I have felt this way for a long time, and I was actually looking for a new job....I think the last interview I went on was 2 weeks ago. If I dont get that job, which I dont think I will, I am just going to stay where I am now until after the wedding...or maybe until next year and start looking then. I don't want to miss out on the free paid week off that my company is giving from Dec 24th to Jan 3rd.

I think you should just stick it out until after the wedding. Wait until things in your life settle down. You have too much stuff going on in your life now....

I agree -- we closed on our co-op and moved in the midst of me starting a new job -- It was not fun and very stressful

I disagree with everyone...

I say don't tie yourself down to a job you are miserable at just because you have a wedding to pay off...

There will always be things in your life that require $$$ (House, children, etc...) IMO, do not get into the habit now of saying: 'I'll just wait until this happens to quit look for a new job...' Then you'll be retired before you know it and looking back on a miserable work life...

(I know this first hand, because I am in the same position and my mother gave me the above advice...So now I am looking for something. I am very nervous...But I just don't want to be tied into something I hate.)

I agree! When you are interviewing...be upfront about the time you will need off for the wedding....if the company wants you, they will not, not hire you because you need vacation in a few months for your wedding. Actually....I have somebody starting here today (a fellow LIW member) who needs off for her wedding in September...we've made the accomodations for her before hiring her.

Good luck!

I feel the exact same way, but I am waiting untill after the wedding to look.
I have thing I need to finish up here anyway, and I geta lot aof vacation time I am going to need.

I know I came take a day off on short notice if I need to for wedding stuff, so that is helpful.

We are looking for a home of some sort after the wedding, but I don't think I can wait untill after that too look, beacuse like BMD's peanut said, I'll be retired by then, if I keep waitign for the 'perfect time'!

Do you want something completely different, or just a different company?

ETA- I had a friednthat Switched jobs right before his weddign & jsut told them abutit &it was ok, but he only needed a week ogg. As it turned out his grandfather gdies & they had a problem w/ their apartmetn, so he had ot take extra days, but they were accomaodating. I just don't want to be under that pressure.

Also, I am not sure where I want to look, so that is a project I need to devote a lot of energy to, that is hard to do when you are planning a wedding.

Re: I feel sad!

Thanks everyone for your advice and support. It really helps. I am afraid that a new job may give me the time off, but unpaid. I can't go 2 weeks without being paid. Like others have said, I do have the capability now to take some time off with short notice which would help once I get closer to the wedding. I am so confused!

I would have to stay in my current field (HR) since that is where I have some experience and I am pursuing my Masters in it(although I really don't like it - don't ask).

Maybe I will sit down and work on my resume now and send it out there to get a feel for what is out there. Who knows!

Thanks again.

Re: I feel sad!

I have gone through the same exact thing twice at this job. But I think my comfortability level is so high here after 5 years, I cant go. But if you have the drive to find another job I say go for it! But just make sure you have something lined up first before quitting.

Re: I feel sad!

I would never leave without having another offer already signed. We need the money too bad right now to go without a job.

I have been here for just about 5 years so maybe some of my hesitation is the comfort level. It's just this new position I was promoted into a few months ago and my new boss that I really don't like.

Five years??

You girls are troopers...

I am a notorious job-hopper...And I've finally come to terms with that...

Re: I feel sad!

My main motivation for staying for 5 years is my stock options. Unfortunatly, right now they are worth nothing since our stock is so low. I keep hoping one day it will jump up very high, I can cash my options out and quit! Hey, a girl can dream!

July 13th will be my 6 year anniversary withteh company, September will be my 5 year aniversary in this position.

Part of what stops me is that I don't have any references since I've only worked here & my boss is still here.

Re: I feel sad!

I was in the same boat as you!
I would wake up not dreading going to work but half way through my commute my attitude was pretty miserable and I noticed my work dropping off as well!
Now, 6 weeks before the wedding, I am changing jobs. My new company gave me NO problem with securing my vacation for my honeymoon. I am not getting paid but I will be getting a pay out for my remaining vacation from my current company.
Since I resigned (even though I am still working here) everyone has been telling me how I seem so much happier lately!

Check out your company policies. And see what would happen to your current vacation. IMO its not worth staying in a job you hate!

BTW, this is my life almost word for word.

Re: I feel sad!

I didn't think of the payout I would get from my current company for my unused vacation. It would be just as if I was taking the days (of course before taxes ).

I think I am going to work on my resume once my semester ends since I have to work on my final now.

Thanks again everyone for your advice! You guys are always so helpful!
