I don't want to get mine altered where I bought it either (the commack wedding center). I think I am going to go to Dorothy Walsh. It is a shop in Northport where my mom got her dress. I have heard good things about that place but I think it is expensive.

ETA: I had my gown altered in Westchester where I live .. but my MIL and SIL had their dresses altered at a wonderful place on LI .. the name of the seamstress/shop is Sophias, I believe. My SIL was my BM and we got their dresses at Davids .. she didn't want David touching it either and needed a lot done (she's a tiny little thing) and they did a great job on her BM gown. MY SIL also had her wedding gown altered there a few years ago and it was great. I can get you the contact info if you are interested (sorry not sure what town they are located in)
