Ok so i officially threw in the towel and gave up on wedding planning. I am horrible at planning... it is all too stressful for me. After visiting 20+ catering halls i did not fall in love with any of them so i did not pick anything. it is now march and i wanted to get married june of 2006. I dont know how all you girls have so much energy for all this, and it seems like you all do such a great job. I could not even get passed step one. oh well

Re: I give up!
Thanx girls for all your words of comfort. Basically i am the most indecisive person in the world and i am a huge procrastinator. Those qualities make for a horrible wedding planner. Basically, the places i thought were ok were: Villa lombardi (my mom likes it there)--- but they want 200 minimum on sat night and i only have 150 to 170. so that one is out (but they had the best price). I also liked westbury manor but they had the same 200 minimum so that one is out. I liked glen island harbor club but their price was high $165 +tip and tax. i have enough money to afford it but dont think it was worth the price. I ended up really liking the bourne mansion.. the price was decent and negotiable, but i was very worried that it was a little run down and in the end would not give me that high class feeling i was going for. and of course my favorite was oheka castle and now i am fixated on it and nothing else will do. So now i have no catering hall... and i feel like time is running out. I know that finding the catering hall is the most important part, but i did not find one so what do i do now? I also am sad because i feel like i did not find a catering hall i loved, so i am settling for less... and then the same thing will keep hapening over and over... i wont find a dress so i will settle for less, etc etc. I feel like just waiting a few years untill i have the money to afford everything i want and pay for it all myself.

Don't give up!!! For me finding a hall that I liked was one of the hardest decisions we had to make. So much $$$ is involved and I know you want to make the right decision. But it will all fall into place.

Don't give up. You may want to just step back and make a list of the things that is the most important to have in the hall. Then only go to the places that seem to have those qualities. Sometime going to too many place can be overwhelming. Take it one day at a time. Also remember that you still have a lot of time to find a place. You can do this.

Re: I give up!
I really think you have the wrong idea about the Bourne Mansion. I would go back in the Spring and look at it. It's definitely NOT run-down. I would not be giving them my money if it was!

Re: I give up!
I have never seen the Bourne in person, but I never got the impression that it was run down from anyone that has gotten married there or from pictures I have seen from brides . . .

Re: I give up!
It's only March of 05!!! You are being way too hard on yourself. Relax it's supposed to be fun. I booked my hall in dec, 2004 for an April 2005 wedding!! I got the date I wanted on a sat night and the price was very reasonable because the wedding was so close. Though it's good to plan ahead, sometimes too much time gives you too much time to change your mind and over obsess. Just my opinion. Good luck. The Tappan House in Tarrytown is beautiful if you are considering somewhere besides LI and Chelsea Lighthouse is great for a NYC wedding.

Did you try talking WM and Villa lombardi down on the min? Maybe you could get them down to 170 or maybe they have a slightly smaller room with less of a minimum. Don't give up! You will find a hall you feel comfotable with. Don't settle, but realize you may not find everything you are looking for. I do that all that time, expecting I'm going to find something that I absolutly love, but that just isn't the type of person I am. I'm indecisive and I sometimes wonder if I should choose one thing or keep looking till I find something I love. lol The problem is the only thing I have truely fallen in love with is FH. lol I just don't fall in love with places, and stuff as much. I have found things I love, but it took me a while to love them. lol Just take a break for a bit and then go back to looking. You will find a place that is right for you.

Re: I give up!
First of All - DON'T GIVE UP !!! - Have you considered hiring a wedding planner? If you are not really into the whole planning process, this may help you - ALSO, just because you do not spend eery waking minute of your life thinking about planning this wedding does not mean you are incapbale !!! We ALL have lives outside of this whole wedding hoopla !! Some brides put MUCH more emphasis on their wedding plans than others. - I for one, do not agonize over anything - I like what I like and that's pretty much it. SO for ME, the planning is easy and stress free. - Try to just think of it as planning a party NOT a 'WEDDING' - Just go through your check list and pick what YOU like - don't worry about how it will look to anyone else. - I promise that will take a LOT of the stress off !!
You may also consider renting just a 'site' like a Museum. - This way you have a completely clean slate to create ANYTHING - and exactly what is in your head can be done ! Good Luck !!!

oh boy... i hope i did not give you girls the wrong impression... i absolutely luved the bourne mansion. it was my TOP choice in terms of price and looks and overall feel. i was just second guessing myself. i got confused b/c it was not the 'typical' catering hall with all the glitz. i thought it would be perfect but then i worried that my guests would not appreciate its charm. thanx for all your advice.

I was not offended, but I also have to put my two cents in for anyone who may not have seen the Bourne, but might have been turned off by what you said. You are entitled to your own opinion, of course! You will make a choice, whether it be sooner or later, and it will end up being the right choice for you! Good luck!
