I think this is the biggest, ugliest fight ever!! We fought over many many things but she also said that she will not give me anymore money and she regrets having an engagment party for us.
She is saying that she is not paying for our reception and that she is calling to cancel the reception all together.
Lots and lots of mean and nasty things were said both ways....I felt like crap the whole day today
I don't know what we are going to do if she refuses to pay for it we may have to cancel I don't know if we can afford to pay the whole thing ourselves.

I'm sorry I bet your mom feels just as bad as you do about your fight. I'm sure that whatever the fight was about, that there is no way your mom would really want to cancel your wedding reception. Moms live for these sorts of things. especially moms that are close to their daughters. I don't fight with my mom, but that is because we're not close. The fact that you two fight means that you are close to one another. So I wouldn't worry about it. Once you cool off, give her a call and see how things are. Good luck

I have talked to my FI...he keeps saying that she probably will pay and that she probably didn;t mean it BUT I really feel that she isn't going to and that now we need to plan on paying for the reception or finding some place else

Oh Kathleen...looks like we are both having terrible weeks (sorry I just saw your post now).
I'm soooo sorry you & your mom are fighting. Perhaps its a combination of her losing her little girl & also maybe she's feeling a bit overwhelmed right now?
I'd definitely give things some time to cool off and then sit down with her to talk.
It's horrible to fight like that & say things you don't mean (believe me I did the same w/ FH the other night). I had that junky feeling in my stomach the last 2 days.
Maybe she feels in over her head, perhaps you guys can offer to pay for something?
I know right now you are beyond that & are just angry & upset & its so sucky to feel like that.

Sounds like there was alot said solely out of anger. I hate arguing with my mom, so I know how bummed you feel. I'd wait it out a few days until the anger settles down and then just slowly conversate with your mom. Settle things now before it gets closer to your wedding.. !!!

weddings and money, really bring out peoples ugly sides. its so hard to get someone to understand what your wedding means to you. i'm sure neither she nor you meant what you each said. talk it out, things have a way of working out.

As someone mentioned earlier your mom has probably been looking forward to your wedding day forever so I'm sure she wants to have a beautiful reception as much as you do.
Not to pry, but are you close to your mom? If so it's probably just one of those mother-daughter spats...we all have them from time to time!

I'm sure everything will work out, Kathleen.. I hate fighting with my mom! Just give her some time to cool off, and then talk to her. Lots of things are said in anger and in the heat of the moment which are not really meant.
