I HATE apartment hunting!

I just wanted to get that out. Thanks
I don't usually vent here.
I have done this before & I HATE it.

These ads misrepresent things SO much.
Now I have an appointment at 6:30 to see some old ladies basement in a house that is near the town where the train station is. . .

Re: I HATE apartment hunting!

I think I am going to cancel. I just called though. I'll give it a little bit & try & come up with something.

My claustrophobic husband won't live in a basement.

I thought $1250 was a little low for 2 bedrooms in this neighborhood. I knew it was onteh outskirts, so I figured that was the reasoning. It wasn't till after I made the appt, she told me it was her house, in the basement.

And she asked who would be living in the apartment, like if it were roomates, it wouldn't be ok.

LOW I think that is high for a basement! We live in a 3 bedroom in N. Bellmore and we pay 1350. I wouldnt even look at it.

Re: I HATE apartment hunting!

I though $1250 was low BEFORE I knew it was a basement. Iit said Bronxville PO.
I know that means Yonkers, but I didn't know where. $1250 is high for Yonkres, low for Bronxville.

This wasn't too far, I don't thikn, around the corner from Desmond, near the BRP, from what she said.

There is another one, that is Scarsdale PO, but it does list the address, but I' m still having trouble figureing out where it is map quest says it doesn't exisit, I thikn the street name changes. I think it is near the Leewood Golf course.

Felicia, too far from the train? (White Plains Road) I think it would be near Crestwood.

We were going to stay in my apartment till next year, & buy something then but it is being sold & I don't want to buy it, so we have to move my the end of Nov. They told me this right before my wedding, & I was able to get an extension from Oct 31, to Nov 30. But since we had the wedding & were away, we haven't done much yet.

I saw something tiny & overpriced on Sunday. Also Yonkers/Bronxville.

Re: I HATE apartment hunting!

Unfortunately, I don't believe White Plains Road is very close to the train.. I think you'd have to drive , its not walkable. I guess it would depend on where around WP Road it is. It runs thru the Eastchester area, bordering Crestwood or Tuckahoe, I believe (my Mom works on White Plains Road and she's technically 'Eastchester')

Its true, the BronxvillePO and Scarsale PO stuff it weird ...because usually the Bronxville means Yonkers or Mount Vernon, and Scarsdale means 'Yonkers' or even Greenburg .. its all so weird around there

Thankfully I owned my cooop before DH moved in with me, so I can live in it forever (NOT) But its only a glorified studio and really its too small for us and the cat.. yet in our building they want high 100K for a one bedroom and for a 2 bedroom they want 250K.. that's not including maintenance, which is extremely high

I hate living in NY

Re: I HATE apartment hunting!

What building do you look in. When were were looking into buying, we cosidered the Hartsdale area.

Westchester is so weird. The boundries aren't really defined.

Unless I stay in Fleetwood, DH will probabaly have to drive me to the train station.

We are right off Central Park Ave... technically we are considered 'Scarsdale' but between you and me, we live 'on the border' and we are closer to Hartsdale. I love the buildings on Hartsdale Ave, but they are waaaay too expensive (the good part is that you can walk to the train when you live there) I have to drive to the train in Hartsdale, its too long a walk .. but paying $300 to park/year kinda sucks And DH drives to LI every day so getting dropped off just doesn't work for us.

Our work/commuting/housing situation is a mess. I am seriously thinking of loooking to get a job in Westchester next year because the commutation costs are killing me, and we may want to look into moving further north where it is more affordable. But moving north would mean DH has to switch jobs also.

Good Luck!!! I know this was 'your vent' and I hijacked your thread!

Re: I HATE apartment hunting!

no, no, you didn't hijack.
Vents are never really so on topic anyway.

I was actually going to FM you about all this anyway, see if you had any ideas.
We only have the 1 car, so we have to work it that he can drop me off. Jean works in White Plains.
Its my job that keeps us in the expensive areas

I hate it too, but I ain't no good at driving
(can't see so well at night) so even if I got a new one, it would have to be in NYC.

BTW- I cancelled with the weird old lady with the basement apartment.

Re: I HATE apartment hunting!

we are starting our house/condo/apartment hunt this coming weekend...

we don't know if it's worth it to take the plunge or rent for a couple more years given our finances and the market in general. we currently live in new jersey and will most likely stay there because of my job. we need out of our one bedroom and the crazy rent of hoboken.

i was in westchester last weekend and stopped by the house i grew up in in edgemont. housing is so freaking OUT OF CONTROL. the people who bought the house from my parents have 4 kids and expanded the house instead of upgrading. i didn't even recognize it ...

if i were to rent in westchester i would check out hastings, hartsdale, scarsdale, white plains, eastchester... my friend just got into a place in hastings with his son and the kid walks to school, my friend walks to the train station...it's very convenient for the both of them. it's hard to find apartments walkable to the train, any available on garth road in scarsdale?
