I hate stupid cops (TINT) just got pulled over by dumb & dumber just cuz I have a yellow car!!

IN MY DRIVE WAY

I have a spots car - yes
It is oh-my-god blinding bright yellow -yes
I have tint - yes

So Im coming home and as I make a right to go one block I see a white car oncoming.

I make the right then make the first left (my street) I always check my rearview in case someone doesnt see me making the turn and I see the white car making a three point u-turn.

I make the left and pull into my dirve (back in actually) As I do I see the white car making the left onto my street - Im on the corner

So I boogie to get out of the way when i hear the siren/horn sound. I hit the brakes and look forward to see the white car now has lights running in it's grill.

OK, I stop and this dumb wench walks up to my window and says the usual license, insurance regi .. whatever.

BULL, I already have one stupid ticket for innocently following a cop's instructions I'll be D*mned if Im gonna get another so I ask why (as she's now looking at my LEGAL police associate badge i have on my window (yeah, its legal a friend's father died in service)

You're tint's too dark

So i give her the stuff when her partner guy comes out to lecture me I call my hubby and put him on speaker. I explain this is how we BOUGHT the car they say 'yeah, sure'

UHMM EXCUSE ME?

I have window stickers to PROVE it and its barely a year into our possession.

They have a little machine and prove my tint is too dark. So what?

He says 'Well everyone knows about tint, even as a kid' A kid??? excuse me ?? im 30 and you're MAYBE 35 .. are you JOKING

Well Im from Texas so I must have missed the NY lessons on tint jobs for cars

She says she's not happy with ANY of the tint jobs on my street. but point blank said get this

'I could pull anyone of these vehicles over, but I wouldnt, I would only pull over yours, and I'll pull it over again'



I said well Im not taking off the tint anytime soon its just not possible or reasonable.

they want me to remove the tint from both front windows AND the back window in ONE WEEK!!

I explained that's not possible. She said it better be.

How can I argue? Im in my own f-ing drive way!

Veronica, I see where you're coming from.

I know you werent calling ALL cops stupid, never once did you say ALL and I seems that those two were 'playing with you' and maybe 'abusing their power.'

I also agree with a previous poster who said if we can prove we bought it from a dealer AND it passed inspection then someone else should get the ticket.. not us.

I had the same type problem when I had tint and when I sold that car I decided never to have tint again. Its just not worth it.

how about this story I heard on Tucker Carlson last night

a Dad gets a phone in the middle of the night- his daughter has been in a near fatal car accident
he jumps in his car and drives to the secen- after all he is a DOCTOR

he gets to the scene- pushes thru the barricade- like any father would-

only to be arrested and charged with a FELONY for interfering with the police and EMT-

mean while it's his daughter and he is better trained than an EMT worker to treat her

the wont drop the charges- the judge is going to laught this case right out of court

more then a little ridiclous if you ask me and Tucker for that matter!

Same thing happened to my DH while driving on the Belt. He had to follow the cop to a yard where they tested the tint. It was dealer installed!!! We ended up just paying the ticket because it was next to impossible to prove it. They still say it's the owner's responsibility for something.

We turned in the car and we will never get tint again..it's just so not worth the aggravation.

I am not jumping in this thread to defend anyone...I will offer this bit of advice to us all for the future:

don't call anything/anyone 'stupid,' 'dumb' or 'retarded' as this will undoubtedly open the flood gates, there is no 'tone' in computer text and people may not realize what you really mean.


now, let's all put on our happy faces and plan our weddings!!!

I asked him what I had done and he told me my windows were too dark. I told him, yes they are but I just bought the car from a car dealership in Commack and they inspected the car. He starts telling me that I am responsible regardless. REGARDLESS???? I challenged him that the inspection machine is regulated by the DMV and who am I supposed to trust if people who are certified by the DMV to do this job are not doing it correctly?



I hate to break the news to you... but the cop was right. It is YOUR responsibility. There are tons of crooked NYS inspection facilities. Cops know this.

Just because you passed inspection... that doesn't mean you can drive with tints.

Unless the tint was FACTORY installed (not dealer installed)... and the tints are part of your car's factory build sheet... they are not allowed.

No. If the infraction occurred while the car was on the street (cop saw her driving)... it doesn't matter where he eventually pulls her over.

I can see both sides of this argument.
Of course referrring to a general population such as cops as stupid will definitely open up for serious debate.

IMO, not ALL cops are corrupt, but I have to say that too many I know and personally myself have dealt with do a great job of enforcing the law but a horrible one of actually following it. I've seen too many off duty DRUNK cops stumbling to their cars with no worry in the world, but another person equally or less drunk could spend the night in jail or have their lives ruined.

I also have seen many times cops look for trouble because they want to abuse their position of power but I have also seen cops who do genuinely care about the safety of their citizens.

These are just my experiences but we all have had our equal shares of experiences both positive and negative with cops and let it be known that all populations should always be approached individually and not generally.

I too both agree and disagree.

You are probably being wrongfully profiled for having a car that looks like that and that’s wrong. However the tint is illegal regardless. Should you be 'harassed' or 'threatened' by anyone... NO!

Sux you got caught & got a ticket. Live and learn I guess. I have a feeling this wont be the last time you hear from them unfortunately!

There are good guys and bad guys in any profession. Some people are a**holes regardless of what they do for a living.

The dealership I bought the car from is not a back street second-hand car place. It is a major car dealership. They are right on Jericho Turnpike.

So please do not assume I don't know what place is legit or not.

Since you quoted only a portion of my post, could you please reply also to WHERE you will find the information about the tint in the DMV book? You seem to know a lot, so maybe you can enlighten us. The book is all that was given to me when I went to the DMV in regards to drive in NYS.

Apparently, you have not experienced what some of us have.

Being treated like you are a criminal is not fun.

Thank you! I wish the DMV had told people like me and the others who posted here also about the website.

I think until you experience it yourself and being treated like a criminal, it's very hard to make you understand the feeling.

Oh I understand unfortunately....don't want to really get into it, but I actually found this on my own trying to contest a ticket for my BIL. he got a ticket for the tint on his rear truck window that was factory tint on a truck with two side mirrors.

Evidently DMV updates the website more often than the books as it is less expensive to update. According to the cs person at DMV, they will eventually get rid of the paper copy at the local DMV offices. If you want one in the future you will have to send a request for a hard copy. When I asked for one when I took my motorcycle test a few months ago she said they already have the class M one on-line only. Nice of them to tell us though

I have 30% in the front of my car and 20% in the rear windshield and back windows.

so I am 100% legit in the front of my car, which is 2 doors anyway - can't roll the back windows down.

I've had tinted windows in all my cars since the late 80's and I am so used to them by now. it's also great for keeping the interior of your car from fading and it keeps the car cooler in the summer. another benefit for people like myself who have very sensitive eyes, it's GREAT for driving at night. you don't get blinded by cars in back of you,

Hope that wasnt Country Mazda or Country family of dealerships

Cause I got news.. They be nasty crooked.

Exhibit A: Sold me a car for one price, then listed it for $1000 less. I mean MY truck (as in VIN number matching) and had it online for nearly a month before I caught it and asked them kindly to stop listing MY OWN truck

Exhibit B: Today, after a week of fighting I got my radio re-installed only to find out the are charging me 100 for warranty work. AND they left me stranded at work with no ride home since they drove me to work. lovely

Knowing Tint laws is useful but apparently they were recently changed. It seems slightly unfair that they grandfather in older cars 2001 and up on a change they make in 04. We've made a decision on our tint.

I just cant afford the removal Not after what happened with my truck today

So I'll post when I get the ticket, i guess

It was not a Mazda dealership. Since the incident occured 3 weeks after I had bought the car, I had them remove the 2 front windows tint for free.

It doesn't matter if its a major dealership or not. Plenty of 'major' dealerships sell cars with illegal tints on them.

Why should the dealer go through the trouble of having them removed? Its not illegal to sell a car with tints. Its only illegal to INSTALL tints and to drive with tints. Plus cars with tints look better... so the dealers will probably get more value.


And actually... before you assume I haven't experienced what some of us have... I had limo tint on my previous car. I know, and have experienced, quite a bit more in regards to tints more than most people on here have.

I have gotten pulled over a couple of times for tints. Big deal. I got out of all the tickets anyways. The only time I got a ticket for a tint was the one of the few times my wife drove my car and she got pulled over and got a $50 tint fine. LOL

But I know that if I ever got a ticket for the tints... thats the cost of having them on my car. I pay the fine and move on with life.

I am not condesending. Just like you are telling 'your story'... I am telling the way I see it. Facts are indeed facts. Everything I have said is in fact.... FACT.

The same thing happened to me once......I have dark tints on an Audi (not too dark though), and I'm from Texas too.


Hmmm.....conspiracy against us Southerners? Damn Yankees!
