I have a female question-Update--

Original post by cherish83

I've been on the pill for a couple of years now. FH and I had sex last weekend and I started spotting and its been getting heavier. I've spotted once before after sex but never this much. I have an appt with my gyno on the 28th, but I'm a little worried as to why. Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone know why?

Sorry if this is too personal. But thanks!

Update - 2/29

So I finally went to the Gyno yesterday and initially everything looked fine. She said I dont look pregnant but took my urine to put my mind at ease. I told her that I have been bleeding after sex for a while and that the last time it continued for a while. She said that it may be the pill since I've been on it for a while and she may need to change my medication.

But then she did the exam. She touched the cervix, and I bled. So now I have to go for a pelvic sonogram. I'm a little worried. Stupid me starts researching last night and one of the first things i see is cancer. I have to call today to schedule the sonogram.

Fh tried to make light of it saying I'm broken First my heart problems back in November, than I had surgery in December for another problem, and now this. Go figure that the dr would be concerned about something yesterday.

oh I hope you're okay! maybe it's just a cyst or something? my sisters have had similar problems and they've been fine, it usually ended up being that they had cysts.

Thats what I originally thought. Wouldn't she have seen that yesterday?

She probably would not have seen it unless she did and actual ultrasound or sonagram. They'll probably give you the transvaginal utrasound. It's slightly invasive, but it's ok. I'm sure it'll will all be ok....I know it's easier said than done, but try not to worry too much unless you're positive there is something to worry about. Stress can have immense effects on the body so try to relax.

my sisters always had to get sonograms though. I don't think they can necessarily tell for sure during the regular exam. I would go asap just to get your mind at ease but hoping it's just that. don't get me wrong - it can be painful or uncomfortable but they never had any other problems relating to having the cysts.

Thanks for the info. I just called and the next available appointment they have is next friday, so i'll have to try and forget about it for now or I'll drive myself crazy

That's happened to me before and it's usually been a cyst. they've done a transvaginal sonogram and that's what it's always been they do that to make sure it isn't anything es.e I'm sure everything will turn out ok.

I've been on the pill for too long to even mention but I know this has happened to me before. My doctor explained that especially when you're on a low estrogen pill (like orthrotrycyclon-lo) for too long sometimes your body gets so used to (if that makes sense) it that it's not enough hormone and you start to have break through bleeding (between periods). That's when you have to switch to a higher estrogen pill. That's what happened to me and switching pills did the trick.

That happened to me as well. I was on a low estrogen pill for many years and had break through. My doc. put me on another pill, still low estrogen but a little higher dose than previous. The spotting stopped. Hope you are feeling better soon!

If you have been on the pill a while your lining gets thinner which will cause spotting. The pelvic sonograms will show this. And honestly, I beet has a lot to do with stress of planning your wedding. Don't worry about anything, this is very common. Just take care of yourself, worrying won't do you any justice.

Thanks girls. I know I started freaking out last night and got my mom all scared. i'm hoping its just hormone levels or something like that, nothing serious.I'm tired of going for treatments and tests

i know its easy to say but try not to worry about it - just do what you have to do, there is no point in getting upset until you get testing done.

also - this is my totally NOT medical opinion but just be careful for now bc I know someone who go pregnant twice after having breakthrough bleeding

now i have NO idea if it was related - and i have bled too ( i have been on the pill for almost 8 years ) and ((knock on wood)) i never had any accidents but she SWEARS that was why she got pregnant.

eta: i forgot the most important thing

I get pelvic sonograms every 6 months, the exam is nothing, you'll be fine. I think I should be a gynocologist. I told you it was the cervix! Don't be nervous, I'm sure your dr. is just taking precautionary methods.

When the Dr was telling me what could be causing it, I was thinking my girls told me this!

OMGOODNESS!!!! Ur not getting a break, are you!! Don't panic and stop trying to diagnose yourself, I DO THAT TOO!!! ((and im never right)). Just relax, let your Dr. do their job. There are alot of other things that it could be.

When do you go for the sonogram? I'm very surprised they didn't just do it right away in the office. Don't PANIC!

Yup I dont get a break. Its to the point, where you just have to laugh about it, because seriously, everything at once.

I go for the sonogram next friday. I have to go to a radiology office, so I guess its different that what she does in the office.

Keep me posted!
It might be that they need to give you a different pill. I have had friends who have been on that same one and then all of a sudden it just doesnt work after being on it for yrs. Their symptoms were bleeding
Every Doc is so cautious now, I am sure everything is fine!
