I have an engagement party question from my mom - TIA

I am not having an engagement party but my mom and dad just got invited to one. There was no notice of where they are registered. Also, when my mom was reading a wedding magazine in the hair salon, she saw an article that said no gifts are necessary for an engagement party. We dont think that is right... is it?

For my e-party, my fsil and fbil got us a really nice lenox picture frame. You could never go wrong there. Your mom could also get a gift certiciate to a store that they could get something for there home.

You can always check on the weddingchannel.com and see if they are registered at a store (maybe they forgot to enclose it in the invitiation?!) I wouldn't go to any party empty handed, a gift is always necessary - no matter what it is and for any occasion. Money is always a good gift.

I have read the same thing about e-parties but I think it's customary to bring a gift anyway.

You could ask the host where the couple registered (if they did already) or just pick up something nice or give money.

I think etiquette says that only family and bridal party give a gift at an e-party. Of course, you still can... I always have.

I just had my engagement part - and most of he gifts i recieved were money - but there were a lot of people figured out where we were registered - I think it is tack to wrte where registered in engagement and wedding inviations -JMO - anyway some peopl brought gifts and others didn't - smaller gift from friends and larger gifts from family

hope that helps

I think it is usually the practice to bring a gift. BUt your mom should do what she feels more comfortable doing.

For my E-party, we got a lot of gifts (baking supplies, glasses, wine, blankets...) and I wasn't registered at that time so people just bought me what they figured I would need. We also got money which was nice. I would have your mother give money if she doesn't want to get a gift.

I think that if they didn't put the registry info in the invitiation, it means they would prefer money...thats how Iwould look at it. For our E-party we got mostly money only 1 or 2 gifts. Although we did get Waterford toasting glasses and they are really nice, so now we don't need to buy them and I know they didn't cost a lot

I had an e-party and also did not register. We didn’t want gifts we only wanted $. Sorry if that sounds trite. But we didn’t need anything other than starter funds for the wedding.

Some people did not give anything and some people who didn’t even attend gave a gift.
I would suggest $.
The average was about $50.00 per couple from close friends $100.00 really close friends and family.

We always give money for e-parties. I personally think gifts are for showers and would be a little turned off to have a registry mentioned in an e-party invite. The money we got for our e-party has reallly helped us out with some wedding stuff, I'll get everything we need at the shower.
