2012er crashing...

I am Jewish and FH is catholic. We are getting married at the RH by a judge. There is no one way to do it. I have friends who had interfaith marriages that got married at the RH and had a priest and a rabbi there.

I have never been to an interfaith wedding at a church but that does not mean it can not happen (I do not know the rules for the church)

I'm having an interfaith ceremony (FH is Catholic; I am Jewish) . We are having a Rabbi and Priest co-officiate our ceremony at our RH.

ETA: You asked, 'Do they get to marry in a Catholic church?' Are you saying that she wants to get married in the church?

Why doesn't he just speak with his parish then?

I think he will its just that (according to her) it feels like theyre putting off the whole conversation of religion and ceremony location and ignoring it but she wants to know if its even posssible before its a surprise and it causes some sort of arguement...my fh already told him 'dude, speak to your church and figure it out first before anything else' but i think she wants to know to make sure (like prepare herself for any possible problems) does that make sense? lol

Coming from someone who is in an interfaith relationship.... It is soooooo important to discuss what you are going to do with regard to religion of kids, etc. to make sure you are on the same page.

People think weddings bring out the worst in people... I have found that religion is even worse (I already am having issues with my mom who does not like that I will not promise her that my children will be raised Jewish!)

We are an interfaith couple and got married at the RH. We had a monsignor and Rabbi marry us.

It was very important to DH to have the marriage recognized by the Catholic Church and the Monsingor we used has arrangements with the Diocese of Rockville Center in which he can perform wedding ceremonys outside of the church for interfaith couples, as long as the catholic person in the relationship goes through all the steps needed as if they were getting married in the church. We had to go to an interfaith precana and DH had to sign a bunch of papers stating he was not renouncing his religion and that he will try his hardest to pass on the catholic traditions to his children.

The Rabbi and Monsingor we used work extremely well together and the ceremony really was beautiful! If you want some more information feel free to FM me. :)

I don't believe a Catholic church will marry an interfaith couple in the church unless both parties are Catholic..... I'm pretty positive on this.

My Rabbi does interfaith if she's looking for someone to marry them of the Jewish faith....

you can get married in the catholic church if you are interfaith, you have to complete precana too, which is especially designed for interfaith couples.
i believe the requirements to get married are a bit different but doable

Im catholic and dh is jewish we got married in a catholic church because it was important to me at the reception dh broke the mazel tov glass and did a few things there.

There was nothing different about our ceremony the only thing we had to do is get a dispensation from rockville centre. I signed a paper asking for permission and heard back in about a month. it was pretty painless

I am Catholic and FH is Jewish, we are having an interfaith ceremony, at the Carlyle. It is going to be officiated by a priest from my church and Josh's Rabbi. I had to fill out specific paperwork with the church, and the priest that is marrying us had to be ok with us being married physically outside the church. It really hasn't been an issue for either one of us. The church gave us a heads up to start the process early on. We both went through pre cana together, and we are going to have to finish up some more paperwork required by the church. The only thing that my church said they will not do is marry us outside. The actually ceremony has to be indoors. That really isn't a problem for us since the wedding is in November. Hope this helps!

This. I'm Catholic (practicing) and FH is Jewish (non-practicing) so we are getting married in the Catholic church (a ceremony, not a mass). There was one form that our Deacon had to fill out and FH had to sign, but other than that it's just like a normal Catholic wedding: pre-cana and agreeing to raise the kids Catholic.

Re: i have an interfaith question jewish-catholic

I'm Catholic, DH is Jewish.

They'll have to fill out some forms at her FH's church, including a disparity of worship form. It's mainly an official document asking permission to get married outside of the normal order of the church (occurs for any interfaith wedding). They're going to ask a lot of questions also at the church. They want to determine that neither party has been married before and both are fit to be married. It's pretty painless.

The Catholic partner (but not the non-Catholic partner) will have to sign a document saying that he will do everything in his power to raise his children in laws of the church. He'll have to do this in front of his FW, and she'll have to state that she understands what he just agreed to. Our priest explained that maybe everything in your power is that you discuss it with your spouse ina meaningful way, and decided something else. You don't have to 'promise to raise your children Catholic' so to speak.

They'll have to go through Pre-Cana. We went to an interfaith pre-cana. We actually both loved it.

Since they're getting married outside the church, that will require yet another form.

Since there are so many forms, and there's a lot to be figured out in terms of the exact order of the ceremony, I'd suggest starting the process ASAP.

FM me if you have questions.
