any mention of the service charge. it clearly states that NYS sales tax will be added, but NO WHERE does it say 18% service charge.
for the rest of you all....does it say it on your contract?

since it doesn't state the service charge, 1) could they raise it w/o my knowledge?? 2)could i refuse to pay it?

I don't think you can get out of that charge. My contract says the price per guest and then a '+' - below the + it says NYS tax and 18% grat. There is a lot of writing at the bottom of the contract; something there must cover them in case the BM forgets to add it to the contract.

My contract also says plus 18% gratuity. But I do believe if they are going to charge you this, it must be disclosed in the contract. Have you signed it yet? They can't add it after you have signed.

My contract states it at the top. Just call them and ask how much it is and have them add it to the contract, because if it does go up and it's not on your contract yet, they can charge you the higher percentage. Just to be safe, I'd call ASAP.

I am also a Westbury Manor bride, and it does not say it on my contract...however, it does say it on the folder where my BM priced out my event...Hope this helps.

Did they mention the service charge to you when you booked it? I'm not sure about this, but they still may be able to charge you the 18% if this is something they mentioned before you signed the contract. Also, if an 18% service charge is a standard payment when booking a catering hall, you may be required to pay it even if they don't mention it in the contract. It sounds like they made an error if there's no mention of the service charge so if you don't want to pay it and want to dispute the charges, you might be able to avoid paying this.
