I just read...**Updated w/ a entry from that site**

on some site where the bride was thinking about doing a donation instead of a traditional favor, and about 60% of the brides to be answered back that its low class and tacky!!

I was thinking about doing a donation due to the fact that both FH and I's grandfathers died due to heart issues, also my mother had a heart attack a few years ago. So it makes sense to us.

So with that said... Do any of you feel its a 'tacky' thing to do? Reading what I read really put a damper on this, to think that some guest would actually find this tacky.

I think it's a wonderful thing to do a donation in lieu of favors and whoever thinks its tacky is a tacky person.

Go for it!! I think donating for Heart disease is a great idea!!

I am not sure how anyone could say that helping the less fortunate by donating money is 'low-class and tacky'...i would think its the complete opposite of tacky

low class at tacky! um that is actually a pretty decent thing to do!! half the items people get for favors are never used at least you know the money you are dontating is going to a good cause!

Thanks girls! I was thinking about printing out the form they send to you after you make the donation and then have a Halloween goodie bag with it (Considering by the time out Guests leave , its Halloween).

I also have a soft spot in my heart to 'Make a wish foundation'. Not that it hits close to family, its just an amazing organization, and I would love to donate to them as well. But I think the Heart Association would make more sense.

I don't think its tacky. Instead I think its thoughful and generous, especially if that donation or cause means alot to you.

I dont think its tacky at all! We are doing a donation as our favor as well... but I have heard from a few people that they dont see that as a favor.

NO WAY, it is NOT tacky! I have no idea how it could even be PERCEIVED as tacky! I would say about half of the weddings I have been to have given donations in lieu of favors, and that's totally fine to me, especially when they are something that is near and dear to the couple's heart.

What I read was aweful.. It was saying how it shows the bride and groom are just being cheap and just trying to show off by donating. I was so pissed off that someone people would write things like that.

I do not think it is low class or tacky...that being said I plan to do a donation in lieu of a favor. It is very popular to do a donation.

I think its an awesome idea. My sis in law got married in march and did a donation for breast cancer. This was very important to her b/c her mom was a breast cancer survivor, so for people to say its tacky, I dont understand that at all

Let me ask you this...do you have at least 3 favors from weddings you were at?

That answers your question.

It is not tacky...

Its not tacky AT ALL. Its actually very thoughtful. I am doing a donation on behalf of my father who passed away from cancer..That to me means something, not some of these favors I have seen.

no i don't think its tacky! It is a good thing. I can't believe people said that! I have gone to weddings where people did a donation. Most people wind up throwing the favors out. The only time I kept one b/c it was a really nice frame (wedding was expensive).

It's not tacky at all. Time for another patented blunt Ali answer...I'm sure that this site was middle america, and not the NY metro area, which tends to be a little more forward thinking and progressive. It's just straight ignorance to think it's tacky, and by no means should it influence your decision in any way. I'm sure they love their favors in Kansas, but on Long Island I really don't think a guest is going to care that they don't bring home their 5th cake server.

WOW! I think donations are great, ESPECIALLY if it is an issue close to your heart. Your friends and family who will be there will definitely understand why you chose this favor, and I think they will appreciate that.

I also think it would be nice to reference/honor your family members somewhere on your donation card or whatever you are using to inform guests of the donation. This way those guests that might not know will understand how important this issue is for you and FH.

not tacky at all...I wish I knew about this, I would have rather done a donation and I am sure that no one would have found that to be tacky...those that do are tacky themselves.
