I just read...**Updated w/ a entry from that site**

Original post by MrsGarcia

on some site where the bride was thinking about doing a donation instead of a traditional favor, and about 60% of the brides to be answered back that its low class and tacky!!

I was thinking about doing a donation due to the fact that both FH and I's grandfathers died due to heart issues, also my mother had a heart attack a few years ago. So it makes sense to us.

So with that said... Do any of you feel its a 'tacky' thing to do? Reading what I read really put a damper on this, to think that some guest would actually find this tacky.

Far from tacky!
Some of those comments were so rude. They should be ashamed of themselves.

I'm so confused as to why people would think making a donation to a charity and special cause would be tacky? That's just weird. I think Ali said it best when boards are talking about $30 donations for 200 people and cash bars...I don't think its a NY thing.

(no one get mad at me I know a lot of people out of state who are cool just saying NY weddings are usually a little bit more extravagant and detailed and it wouldn't be viewed as tacky when everything at the wedding is totally paid for ie. food & drinks and then a donation.)

We did a donation instead of a favor. Do you know how many of our guests thanked me for not making them take home some gift that they'd never use?! Definitely not tacky. Especially if it means something to you. We donated to a breast cancer fund since DH's mom was diagnosed last year and is currently in remission.
