I know i'm being terrible...

Original post by jgl

and people are going to get pissed...

but some of the things people spend money on for a 1 day wedding is in my opinion ridiculous.

I can understand people who are BEYOND rich.. i dont think they know what to do with all that money.

But the average person ... I just don't get it.

i want my wedding day to be special and beautiful just like veryone else. But I put my priorities first. Marrying the person I love and buying a house to me is much more important and will last longer.

ok rant over, hope i don't offend anyone..

im with you..there are some things that i have to have..but i dont have to have the best of everything if i can not afford it..and all those little things..people arent going to even remember it..so why waste money..i dont remember much from weddings ive gone to except the food and entertainment..and thats really all your guest will remember too

dont go crazy on all the things like the wooden letters that seem to be a LIW trend..i mean you can get them cheap and all..but seriously..spend that money elsewhere..

I love those wooden letters

Remember that everyone has different priorities and what is important to one person may not be important to another. I think that some weddings get out of control (JMO), but everyone is entitled to spend their money as they please.

(PS: I am NOT having an extravagant wedding, but hey to each their own).

Ditto!

I also agree. Sometimes people get so consumed with the actual wedding day, they forget about the important things like the rest of your lives together.

lol vey true.

yes i have 2 photographers
yes i am having a dress made by a well known designer
yes i am having my wedding at a expensive place
and yes i have added a lot of extras... It dosent make me rediclous, it dosent make me forget how important my day is, and by no means does it take away from myself and FH. We are buying because we want to buy a house and it will make us happy. This is what we can afford so this is what we will do. It dosent make me appreciate my day any less because I have 2 photographers or expensive flowers and by no means does it take away from my true feelings. We do these things because it makes us happy with goes along with us having the perfect day. Denise said it well.

Well said

Personally I don't think that just because you spend a lot of money on your wedding means you are losing sight of what really is important...

YES! I personally made a vow to myself early on to never criticize another bride. Wedding planning can get tough! It's so easy sometimes to look at someone and be like huh??? hehe but I learned everyone has their own reasons. Different strokes for different folks. I'm sure people look at some of the things im doing and are like why the hell is she spending money on that. I'm sure all our weddings will be beautiful events - no matter what cost or extravagence and we have to remember that most of the time we are planning, on this site, paying for extra things BC we are looking forward to celebrating the future on this special day. I am sure none of us are losing sight of what this all means.

very well said

Here is my thing with this whole thing...I am sure most of us have experienced someone telling us why are you doing so and so for your wedding and criticizing your decisions. Regardless of how simple you want your wedding, how extravagant, small, big or whatever, it is your wedding and you should do whatever you want to do with it...In our lives we dont all make the same choices...We are individuals so why must everyone have the same views on what they do for their wedding.

None of us like when we've had others criticize our choices. Whenever i see someone doing something for their wedding, whether I like it or not, i dont like at it as ugh what are you doing? Its like hey good for you you're doing what you like and doing it the way you want it. Its not for me to agree with everything. Theres no reason to compare our weddings to eachother. What works for me doesnt work for others and vice versa.

yeah i dont think Gina mean like regular stuff like paying for a DJ or something like that

I think she meant more like the whole 'Platinum Weddings' vibe like spending $50K on a certain kind of exotic lily that only grows out of the armpits of Himalayan donkeys. . . for example.

THank you tilde.. that is exactly what I meant and I just wasnt getting my point acrosss, didnt explain it properly.

I never meant to say that people shouldnt add things to their wedding or splurge. Im talking OUTLANDISH things...

arrggg...

Denisse you and many others are correct and I said everyone has their own opinion on what they want and dont want and what they think is necessary for their wedding (it doesnt matter who is paying or if they have the money or not) I'm talking regular brides who arent wealthy including OUTLANDISH things in their wedding that I just dont get!

Look this wasnt meant to get people upset, I was stating an opinion (that uinfortunetly i wasnt clear on and i wont give any examples.. i dont think that is right). I am sorry if anyones feels are hurt. I respect anyone who is paying anything on their own!

dont worry you didnt hurt peoples feelings, well i didnt get my feelings hurt, cant speak for everyone. Its ok for people to have a difference of opinion

you are right.. i dont think you are ridiculous for having those things.. i'm not talking about things like I mean OUTLANDISH. Think Bridezillas, those people get so consumed in having things THEY want, they forget about their FH's and what their wedding is really about.

Sorry you took me out of context, that isnt what i mean and i am not knocking what your choices are.

I agree and understand all at once. It's a lot of money, but it's for the one thing that will happen once in your life. We learned to splurge on the important this and not to stress on the less important. Flowers and limos and favors were on the least important. Pictures were the most b/c it was something we would have to last a life time. If you try to look at it that way, it may not seem so bad. I hope this helps.

I think i know what you're talking about now...I have seen some shows where the girls care more about being outlandish than they do about their husbands and are a bit out there...Yeah i think people just misunderstood

i agree denise
there are things that i am splurging on because they are important to us, and things that im very basic on because they are not as important

for each of us, it is our day to do as we please and to please our guests

exactly, there are some things i wont care too much about...but whatever is important to us we will have to make a decision about how we want to handle that decision...If its that important and you're willing to sacrifice a bit then hey do what makes you happy. I say the same for girls who second guess spending money on things, I've said it here before, if you are not comfortable with it then dont do it, its not worth it then.
