but some of the things people spend money on for a 1 day wedding is in my opinion ridiculous.
I can understand people who are BEYOND rich.. i dont think they know what to do with all that money.
But the average person ... I just don't get it.
i want my wedding day to be special and beautiful just like veryone else. But I put my priorities first. Marrying the person I love and buying a house to me is much more important and will last longer.
ok rant over, hope i don't offend anyone..

I understand your point of view, but I don't think its fair of you to say it's a waste of money when you just said your parents are paying for the RH which is the most expensive part of a wedding. FH and I are paying for our entire wedding ourselves wihtout the luxury of help from our parents and I don't view that as a waste of money. I think its important to realize that some people don't have the help of their parents and in order to even have a wedding they have to spend money that could have gone towards a down payment on a house.
totally.
i see others puttin down money on the house and we cant do that bc of us payin for the wedding by ourselves.
i just think we all see people spending on certain things that make us scratch our heads like this

yeah i dont think Gina mean like regular stuff like paying for a DJ or something like that
I think she meant more like the whole 'Platinum Weddings' vibe like spending $50K on a certain kind of exotic lily that only grows out of the armpits of Himalayan donkeys. . . for example.

I agree with KimnAnthony...when it comes to the boards its just better off not to judge what others do, because you'll think what one person does is wrong and theyll think what you do is wrong, you cant win...ANd honestly its not for anybody else to think it is right or wrong, as long as you are fine with the decisions that you make then thats what matters...Honestly its nobodies business how much someone else is spending.
Alot of people on these boards have also said negative things about others paying for your wedding, there was a thread about this not that long ago...They feel that if you two are adults and want to get married that you should pay for it yourself...ANd dont know how you personally feel about that or if you even read that but i am sure you dont like others to judge you for what you are doing.
For me personally i dont care how little or how much someone is spending, its their life, their money, it wont effect my life...As long as its something they are fine with then hey to each their own ya know.
Now i dont get offended by things but i will always say my side of things to give a different perspective...There are some things that yes I am splurging on and i am perfectly fine with that...I made a decision and i am comfortable with my decision...with the money i make i have a decision i can either go out shopping buying a bunch of clothes that honestly i do not need, i have clothes just here and there get things i do need. I dont feel the need to go out all the time and splurge, i can live without that and make this sacrifice for now...I have decided to put most of what i make towards the wedding, i have no regrets, no second guessing myself and i am fine with that...YOu can also look at it the other way...See FH is somebody who still wants to splurge, i can sit there and say uhmmm are you that materialistic that you need to constantly buy yourself that many clothes, hats, sneakers and whatever else he always has to buy, is it that hard to put that money away instead and put it towards savings. I dont mind sacrificing now, i am past the age where i feel the need to wear just designer clothes, and past OMG i gotta have that i want it, but really do i need it? I can buy clothes, how memorable will those clothes be to me? the wedding now yes it will be something that is 1 day but will be the most memorable day of your life and something you will always look back at, not that one night i went to the club and had a hot new expensive outfit. But this is my outlook.
Also its hard to say to others why are they spending so much on things...You don't know their situation, how much they make, if they're getting any help...Also you said about a house, there are couples who are getting married who already have a house, so they dont need to save for that...I own an apartment, not only that but this is what my dad does, he has a couple of apartments so i am not worried about the whole house thing...When we want to move into a house i can sell one.
Now im not offended by what you said, and im not attacking your views either but just showing you that its hard to judge people for this especially those we dont know and dont know their status...Now if its someone you're close to that you know their financial situation and are spending way more than they should then that is different
Well said
Personally I don't think that just because you spend a lot of money on your wedding means you are losing sight of what really is important...

LOL everyone has the right to buy, do, rent, purchase whatever they want and its really no one else's business
Yes, people want honest opinions, but that is usually when a question is asked - Never will EVERYONE agree on what is important and what's not, whats worth the $$ and what's not
Your wedding= Your decision

I agree with Mrs Q that everyone is entitled to spend their money in their own way. Its your wedding, IT ONLY COMES ONCE, its OK to spurlge on things to make your wedding your dream come true wedding, thats my opinion. My parents will help me but I am paying for most of it myself, so I feel I will have whatever I want bec I am working my *** off for this. Its not a Platinum wedding, which is insane or whose wedding where on this episode a birde spent 500,000 on her wedding, that is craaazy.

Too funny. I agree with alot of comments on here, to each their own, but it does suck and I've seen it when people without a lot of money mention going a cheaper route and you get posts like... 'you get what you pay for'...
For awhile I had to distance myself from here, lol because I was panicking because I thought I needed things I've never heard of like petal cones, oot bags, monogrammed this and that, 3,000 gowns, swarovski crystals...yadda it got so overwhelming and I found myself stressing that my low budget wedding was gonna be horrible and so inadequate to what alot of others are planning and able to do...
BUT then snapped back to reality and got back oncourse with the basics and I'm cool. FH said he never wanted a wedding while we were dating, so I guess I'm fortunate that he's going for this at all and we are even having that day that wont be in a courthouse, and yes I would have done it because I love him that much ;)
but will admitt it was very hard at first to read what so many have... Thats not a judgment statement I'm very happy that people are fortunate enough to have those means, hell I wish I did...
I think for the most part everyone here is very understanding and helpful! I've gotten alot of advice on these boards, and I for one LOVE that people share and have their own opinions, I think if we werent honest when people ask questions, we're not really being all that helpful. Unfortunately though the wonderful internet has created a world of fake... but ofcourse none of us are

i agree with you completely , and also the point that people have a right to spend what they want for their ideal wedding. honestly, i just want a small ceremony on the beach or water(even on LI!) and maybe a small restaurant reception.
This is what I am doing! So many people have made me feel like it's not good enough because it is simple. I am having lots of nice flowers, a good photographer, limos and all that, but no LI hall which so many people (not necessarily on here) focus on as the mark of a great wedding. My wedding will be so personalized and intimate and FH and I are both so excited for it!
Everyone should make sure that their wedding is a reflection of who they are all the thousands of other days that they are blessed to be alive. If a LI hall is your style then go for that, if a smaller beach wedding is...you get my point...
All of our weddings will be beautiful!!
PS...Sorry to crash!

Oh wow!!!!!!!!!! Didn't know then I agree with kimanthony then. FH and I are paying for wedding and I only care about what we spend and what we want to splurge on. I agreed in the beginning thinking people who tried to have 'the knot platinum weddings' when it isn't feasible...

YES! I personally made a vow to myself early on to never criticize another bride. Wedding planning can get tough! It's so easy sometimes to look at someone and be like huh??? hehe but I learned everyone has their own reasons. Different strokes for different folks. I'm sure people look at some of the things im doing and are like why the hell is she spending money on that. I'm sure all our weddings will be beautiful events - no matter what cost or extravagence and we have to remember that most of the time we are planning, on this site, paying for extra things BC we are looking forward to celebrating the future on this special day. I am sure none of us are losing sight of what this all means.

THank you tilde.. that is exactly what I meant and I just wasnt getting my point acrosss, didnt explain it properly.
I never meant to say that people shouldnt add things to their wedding or splurge. Im talking OUTLANDISH things...
arrggg...
Denisse you and many others are correct and I said everyone has their own opinion on what they want and dont want and what they think is necessary for their wedding (it doesnt matter who is paying or if they have the money or not) I'm talking regular brides who arent wealthy including OUTLANDISH things in their wedding that I just dont get!
Look this wasnt meant to get people upset, I was stating an opinion (that uinfortunetly i wasnt clear on and i wont give any examples.. i dont think that is right). I am sorry if anyones feels are hurt. I respect anyone who is paying anything on their own!

People spend what they can afford what sounds rediclous to you may be not so crazy to some. Weddings are expensive in general. People have different budgets.
