Re: I KNOW THIS IS A DUMB QUESTION....
the receiving line is usually inside the church like right inside the doors. the people all walk down the line to say congrats, etc. and then walk out of the church and wait with the bubbles. when everyone has gone through the line the bride and groom will come out and everyone blows the bubbles.

The parents and grandparents of the bride and groom are also in the receiving line. The bridal party goes straight outside after saying hello and congrats to everyone in the receiving line.

it depends on how many people you think are going to attend the ceremony/mass. You can get an idea of this based on the day and time. (ex. figure more people are going to come on a sat then on a friday night). With pictures and receiving line i'm giving myself an extra 45 min at the church after the mass ends.

It depends on how many guests you have and how chatty they're feeling. LOL! Most know to just say Congrats and move on, but it can be lengthy. It's up to you if you want to do it or not, but it's hard to avoid. You'd literally have to duck into a room and hide and have some instruct the guests not to line up. I'm going to do one. I also feel like it gives you more time to enjoy the reception without feeling obligated to seek out each and every person to have a long convo with. Edited for typos.

Re: I KNOW THIS IS A DUMB QUESTION....
I am getting married at a church - but there is a wedding right after mine so we will promptly be getting the boot and I am expecting over 200.
Someone suggested that I do the receiving line as guests enter the country club to greet them. That way I dont have to worry about going table to table and can enjoy the reception - which i prefer! As long as it doesnt cut into the coctail hour too much, it might work.
