I learned to use guns today

I learned to use guns today

Let me first say that FI is well versed in using firearms and has been bugging us to go shooting for a while. Not because he's a gun nut, but feels everyone should know how to fire a gun in case of emergency/self-defence.

I went with FI and our koubaro (the best man who will be marrying us - not like a priest but preforms some of the rituals in an Greek Orthodox Ceremony) went shooting. We went in Pennsylvania.

Let me tell you - for those of you have never fired a gun - OHMIGOSH! We shot .22 Calaber Revolver and 9mm Glocks. The .22 Calaber wasn't horible but it killedddddd my trigger finger and the Glock was just sick. I don't know if any of you have shot a glock - OHMIGOSH scared the living crap out me!!!! It almost flew out of my hand and I was ready to not try again, but with a little bit of practice I got the hang of both.

For those of you who don't know me, I have no issues with guns but I have an issue with ME firing guns - I'm the BIGGEST CLUTZ!!!! I hit 3 x's in the center mass and I hit the Q in the DEA's target.

If this experience did nothing else, it gave me a MUCH greater respect for using guns - all those X's and Q's I hit would have KILLED someone. That is just a very humbling experience.

I occasionally go shooting with my dad and his friends, we usually go out to Calverton. Yes, I have shot a handgun I think it was a .45, and my elbows were killing me when I was done! The kickback is so bad, that I couldnt even hit the target at 10 feet! I am an awesome shot with the rifles, (I can hit the 400 yard targets on the dot). The .22 is easy, but I find that the bigger rifles are easier to target. Try to do it sitting down, its hard to do standing up. And put a towel on your shoulder where you are resting the rifle. You will thank me for that! And if you ever get next to someone who is shooting an AK-47, watch out! I got burned by a shell casing that went down my shirt and made a mark on my neck that looked like a hickey!

ETS: I had originially posted it was a Glock it wasnt. I think it was a .45
My dad has a Glock when I go next time, I will try that!

Ladies, I see a GTG at Calverton coming! LOL

I still have my blown up shooting target from my handgun safety class. I don't own a gun, but my dad keeps trying to convince me.....

I took a self defense class and our instrustor let us fire a fully automatic machine gun, talk about power

I used to shoot clay pigons with my Dad when I was a kid. I did learn to respect guns but when my Uncle and Aunt and counsin (who own a bagel store) got guns....it REALLY scared me!!!! THese guns were meant to protect and all the storie that you hear about people pulling the guns out and they end up dead just scare the crap out of me!!!

Scott begs me to go shooting with him. He and his friends go all the time. I'm very nervous, but he really wants me to learn to fire a gun.

I was very nervous about it too - I never thought I'd like to learn. But the more I hear about some of the crazy stuff that happens, the more I think I should at least learn to use them. I'd never sit there and carry one around - but I feel every house should have at least one.

One of the guys that goes shooting with us is a good friend of the family and his 13 year old son has been going with us. He has been shooting since hes like 9 years old, and he would NEVER touch those guns without his dad being there. Kids that are raised around guns usually dont wind up in accidents, its the kids that find one under the bed that play with them. This guy locks up all the handguns, but doesnt have room to lock up all the rifles. When I went to school in NC, it was legal to carry a gun with a concealed permit! That was scary..

Wow Olga! That sounds so scary - me and a gun...hmm..dont think that will ever happen! One of my professors told us his expierence of shooting guns at a DA's practice range. He said you seriously realize the power and responsibility that is invovled. Your FI sounds so cool! - jewelry expert and guns! WOW!

lol They are Cretan so that's where the guns come from - but they aren't nuts. They have a SEVERE respect for guns but they feel each house should have one. It's so true - I fired the glock the first time and that thing pushed me back and my hand went flying. I went 'ohmigosh and you can buy THIS on the street any day of the week????'

Re: I learned to use guns today

Our friends in FL are licensed to carry firearms and go shooting all the time. FI and I have never done it, but when we get to FL we are both going for the license and shooting ranges.

My fear the gun will fall out of my hand or I'll fire it and go flying back. But with practice I am sure I will get the hang of it.
