I might be leaving my job!

I might be leaving my job!

Sooooo my old company made me an offer last week to go back to work there and make more $$$ than I'm making now. I'm pretty sure I'm going to take the offer b/c right now I really need the money! Just all of a sudden I started to feel so guilty b/c I know they really need me where I work now. I work for a large sports company and a lot of people would love to work here.....I guess I'm just starting to feel bad that I'd be abandoning them!! My old company is a large financial firm- I like the people better in that office and my hours would be better (9-5 instead of 10-6 where I am now). I told my current job that they made me an offer, and they were supposed to be working up a counter offer- that was a week ago and they still haven't said anything to me.

I guess I'm just starting to feel guilty and wanted to hear what you girls think- considering we're all planning weddings- would you leave your current job if you were offered something that was 5K more per year and included overtime pay (which I don't get paid for now and I work tons of OT!!!).

Thanks for hearing me out ladies!!

I think that it seems as if your old job is putting more on the table for you. You have said it yourself, your hours are better, more $$$$$ and the work environment is better. Understandable you are going to leave your current job with one less employee but when it comes down to it you need to do what works for you. Do you think they would hesitate to fire you if it was more suitable for them to do so? jmo But whatever you decide do it for you and good luck with it.

I would make my decision on the money, the office culture and co-workers, I would also consider why you left your previous job if it was only for money then I'd go back if they are paying me more than what i am currently making.

Helen - I'd go back to your old job - I know it's hard to leave your current job b/c you're comfortable, but you're a good person, and that's why you feel bad.

Go for it!

I would go back... if you were happier that is what counts..plus that extra $$ would be great!!

FH accepted a position 1/2 that doesn't pay OT, but he works almost 12 hours... so not right !and the salary isn't spectacular either..

based on OT alone I would leave, if you work you should be compensated..

when I left I was working with their operations department and this position they're offering now is in accounting and would be more suitable to my background.

Thanks for the advice!!

Re: I might be leaving my job!

Wait... unless I am reading wrong.
1- More money
2- better hours
3- Better work environment (you like the people better)

what's to think about??? I also just went through a job change... And I too felt guilty for leaving... But you need to think about YOURSELF, it is very hard to do... But just try.

Just make sure they are aware of how much t ime you would like to take off for your Honeymoon if it is already scheduled... That's what I did.

It is a very stressful situation to go through... But you will make the right decision.

If you want to get really ballsy and tell the job that offered you the job that your new one counteroffered and see if they will up the anti... Maybe they will go to 10K more... it doesn't hurt to ask. And if they don't do it... at least you know you asked. And if you still want to leave at least you will be making 5K more.

But money isn't everything, if the hours are better and you like the people better... you might be happier. That's what matters

Good Luck!

Thank you so much!! you are so sweet!! it's so true once you start working somewhere you know what you can get away with (like LIW time! and you get to be so comfortable that for me its such a strain to leave.....but at least on the bright side I already know all of the people I'd be working with, and I actually like them!! Of course it helps that there's 2 other girls planning their weddings in my old office lol!!! Where I am now, it's probably 75% men that work here so really they don't give a @#!*% about me babbling about my wedding.....isn't it funny how these little things make the difference in being happy at a job???

Thanks for the advice ladies.....you are all so great!!

I like the way you think!! getting the old job to counter offer the current job!! I'm so stressed I don't know if I have a big enough pair lol!!!

thanks for being so reassuring...especially since you just went through the same thing.

no I guess I really don't.....I kind of know that this is a no brainer, but I can't help but feel guilty for leaving.....especially b/c the girl in my department here who is supposed to be my back up sleeps at her desk (no I'm not kidding....she even has a blanket in her drawer!!)....she is super lazy and I feel so bad (for my co-workers and my vendors) that they will have to rely on her til they find a replacement.

You are all right.....I have to think about myself!! If I stay here out of guilt, I'll probably end up really starting to hate my job out of pure resentment for not taking the other position.

Re: I might be leaving my job!

You know... Asking for a raise is the hardest thing for a person to do.. for some reason, you can fight for everyone else... yet when it comes to your self... you are scared to fight.

A lot of people don't feel comfortable doing something like that... but if you think you will be happier... the money is just the icing on top of the cake.

You being happy is #1 priority.

I just left a job that I was at for 6 years... I LOVED the people I worked with... but knew I was being taken advantage of financially... I moved to a company that a friend at the time was just starting... Which was one of the hardest decisions of my life... I left a company which I had security and I felt I was being a little underpaid... For a company that a friend was starting and making more money... But in a month would I have a job??? Who knew???

Well I did left... And 4 months later... I am still here and we are GROWING like crazy!!!! I felt I needed a change, and I needed to do it for myself... I couldn't feel bad for all the friends I would be leaving behind my work, I needed to do something for ME and let me tell you... 1 of the best decisions of my life... (besides marrying Dwayne... Hehehehhe)

Job changing is stressful I know, but it doesn't have to be... The ball is in YOUR COURT... You can me the decision... That's the best position to be in. Better then someone making the decision for you.

Good Luck... Which ever way you choose!

Helen, I would go where the money takes you. You work for money, but also you need to like your job and it sounds like you like your old one better. I think you have made up your mind and thats why you are feeling guilty because you will be leaving. I always feel guilty leaving, but you are going to a place that will help your pockets out and a place you will be happier at. Congrat Helen!

better hours and more money sounds like the better deal to me. and not to sound mean but everyone is replaceable..your current job will be okay without you.

Business is Business and I live by this
I would not feel guilty b/c you are doing it for yourself. I look at it this way, the head honcho is always looking out for better business deals to make more money-so why cant you?
