I need advice, yet again, about that job I was offered.
So I was offered this summer job that entails two and a half hours of teaching music a morning. It's only for 10 bucks an hour, but it requires lesson plans and me getting my own materials. I accepted the job, but now I am thinking it will be much more work than it is worth. I am thinking of calling them and telling them that I don't think it will work out. I promised myself I would not work at a camp this summer, and what did I do? Accept a job at a camp. I ALWAYS regret it. I teach privately in the summer, so I still get that money ontop of my school salary. I am just alway SO responsible though, so I feel bad calling back and turning them down now. But if I take it, I also have to cancel my vacation in August Someone give me some advice, please!

call up and tell them the money is got good enough for the work you are doing and ask for more that is a sure way for them to tell them that they are not interested.

I already asked at the interview if they were firm on it, and she said that is the absolute most they can offer. Considering I make 5 times that teaching privately, it's REALLY not worth the money.
ETA: My main issue is that I feel TERRIBLE flaking on them. DAMN CONSCIENCE!

is there any way that burning a bridge with them can affect you in other career endeavors?

No, pretty much not at all. I already have a full-time teaching job, and I teach music for elementary school and junior high. They are a pre-school. The only reason why I don't care about telling them sorry is because I have my own private teaching studio and next summer I have a job at the camp my own school runs. I didn't take it this summer because I didn't think I would be in the area of my school much, since I live 45 minutes away. But now that my private studio is 5 minutes from my school, I'm there all the time. Did that make sense? I think I just need to hear that i'm not a bad person if I call them and decline now!

I don't think you would be a bad person ... except when is your start date? If you are not giving them much notice to replace you, then I would feel bad (but still decline the offer if you really don't feel it's worth it).

if it won't cause any problems down the road, then fine
