Sadly, I decided to call off my wedding. There were a lot of problems that could not be solved before the wedding set for June.
However, I have been in contact with all my vendors for refunds and credits. For the most part, all of the vendors have been really great and I am really glad for that. MV Limosines, Park Ave Photography, and the band, Niteflight were all great!
My catering hall is asking for the origional contract and is not giving me a refund on my deposit. Why should have to give him the copy I have of the origional contract. He stated that he can not book that date without the contract. ALL of my other vendors are making the changes without the contract given to them.
Any advise women? It just sounds fishy...

Re: I need advise about something
so sorry youre dealing with this, but do you have the original contract? If so, I would just make a copy and show it to him...he may need it in order to book another date,

He probably needs it so you can't say later that you had that date & such. I'd make a copy & keep the copy & give him the original. I'm soooo sorry to hear, but better you found out before, rather than later.

It is just a copy of the contract. All the vendors keep the origional.

First, I am sorry about your situation!!
Next, maybe they want your original contract to make sure its really YOU, and not someone else trying to cancel the date. We keep hearing these horror stories about how vendors get cancelled bececause some one called pretending to be them and cancelled. If they get the original contract from you, they will know this is not the case. They may be trying to cover their own azz. Unfortunately, they don't have to give you your deposit back. That suffolk county law only applies for cancellations 6months or more. so sorry you have to go through this. I hope everything works out for you.

Is that in Suffolk? Check on this board. Someone was in the same situation you are in a couple of days or so and there were a few emails about it. Apparently you can get out of it in Suffolk.

That law is only for 6 months or more prior to the date. She is in June, so thats only 4 months. Unfortunately she can't get out of it.

Re: I need advise about something
I guess it is 6 months then. Maybe you can post the availabiltiy on here on a separate post.
I would not give back my original contract. That's the only proof you have about cost, deposits, etc.
I don't know why they would want that. They have their own copy. Seems very strange.

Re: I need advise about something
i have to find it from a girl on theknot...but she posted law in suffolk county about catering halls--and under 6 months notice, they have a right to keep a certain amt of the deposit (i don't remember if it's all or just some). nothing is said about the original contract. you might be able to google it and search under county law about catering halls.

I would not give them the original contract back, but make them a copy if they really want. It does sound kinda fishy.

I saw that post too. why don't you post with the topic getting out of a reception hall contract in suffolk. I am pretty sure it was 6 months before the date though.

Re: I need advise about something
see if you both can just sign and date your original copy to verify... cause if the hall does not have this proof you can always cause a major problem later.. not saying you will, but the hall doesnt know that or trust that, i can not blame them some people out there are nutty

Re: I need advise about something
I am so glad I check with all of you and in the past postings. I was able to find the actual law on here. Which I am really glad about. I will let you all know how everything turns out. Thank you ladies!

Re: I need advise about something
There is a Suffolk Co. law that states if you cancel with a hall more than 6 months before your booked event they must refund you all of your money minus $100.
