i need help... big time girls...*LOOK WHAT I FOUND

i was just fired from my job.... for a RIDICULOUS reason.. i need help finding out what i can do about it.. i already filed for unemployment.. but i need more advice..

LOOK WHAT I FOUND-

You believe you were terminated for refusing to perform an illegal or unsafe act for your employer.'

my boss was being served papers for a lawsuit and since she didnt want to go up to the front and take them and sign them she told me to do it... i told the big scary man that i could sign it for her, but he would not budge.. he said he would wait for her to be available because he needed to give it TO HER and have HER sign it.. so my boss tells me to tell him that if he doesnt leave we're calling the cops.. i didnt tell him.. because i was scared SH*TLESS... i had no idea what was going on and i was soo uncomfortable... so they got mad at me for not 'doing what they told me to do' and they fired me. how ridiculous and ILLEGAL is that?? i have been crying my eyes out all afternoon... i have done sooo much for these people and this is what i get.... and 3 weeks before my friggin wedding!!!!!

Did they put it in writing what happened?

What kind of work were you doing? You definitely don't want to work there if this is how they treat you! We will help you find something fast!

there is no HR... its the 2 bosses and thats it... they have 2 other employees who are at the same level as i am... so THEY are the 'higher ups'.. its a small business.

Contact HR.
If SHE is being served legal papers, you LEGALLY cannot sign for them. And I'm pretty sure (lawyers, correct me if I'm wrong) that even if the cops came, there is nothing that they can do.

contact human resources. Do you by any chance work for a union? You definitely need to take action against them for this. There is no way they can fire you because technically speaking when someone is served with papers they are the ones who have to sign. It's a legal matter and you had no control over the situation regardless of what you said and/or did. I'm really mad for you

i was a receptionist in a medical office.. the 2 doctors are the only employers.. they own the business. they had 2 lawyers on the phone in their office in the back as im sitting up front at the desk with this scary guy waiting for her.... and they told me the lawyers told them that anyone over 18 can sign and take the papers from him...... i feel like this is a ridiculous thing to get fired for... because i was scared... i am soo disgusted right now

wow. First of all...they shouldnt have put you in that postion. She should have told you to say, I cant sign for them and she refuses service. At that point in time, she has to handle it. end of story.

i feel horrible that you lost your job, but on the bright side, who needs to work for idiots like that. i think this is a blessing in disguise! she knew very well that you couldn't sign those papers and the guy serving her wasn't about to jeopordize his job for your lazy ex boss.

Were they serving your boss personally? or is the lawsuit against the company as a whole??
