i was just fired from my job.... for a RIDICULOUS reason.. i need help finding out what i can do about it.. i already filed for unemployment.. but i need more advice..

LOOK WHAT I FOUND-

You believe you were terminated for refusing to perform an illegal or unsafe act for your employer.'

I ONLY PASTED THE ONE THAT APPLIES TO MY SITUATION.

I'm sooo sorry this happened to you! I would definitely speak with a lawyer since there isn't a hr department you can speak to. Good luck sweetie...I hope everything works out for you!

I would definately call (I think its Siben&SIben that does free consults over the phone) especially if it was something your boss was receiving papers for personally....they definately have no right to fire you for not taking papers for her. Good Luck!

my boss was being served papers for a lawsuit and since she didnt want to go up to the front and take them and sign them she told me to do it... i told the big scary man that i could sign it for her, but he would not budge.. he said he would wait for her to be available because he needed to give it TO HER and have HER sign it.. so my boss tells me to tell him that if he doesnt leave we're calling the cops.. i didnt tell him.. because i was scared SH*TLESS... i had no idea what was going on and i was soo uncomfortable... so they got mad at me for not 'doing what they told me to do' and they fired me. how ridiculous and ILLEGAL is that?? i have been crying my eyes out all afternoon... i have done sooo much for these people and this is what i get.... and 3 weeks before my friggin wedding!!!!!

WHAT did she expect of you, like that guy who asked her to sign the papers is going to listen to whatever you say...He obviously NEEDED her to sign those papers and not like you could've done anything about it. Seems like she has issues and obviously alot of them. She is a coward who can't deal with her own problems. Who knows what is going on with her now.

I am so sorry this had to happen to you. Make sure you will get your last paycheck for 2 weeks, even 2 weeks after you are done. Theres also an additional paycheck you get when you get fired.

Were they serving your boss personally? or is the lawsuit against the company as a whole??

im so sorry! thats a screwed up thing. if she was being served it doesnt seem right that anyone over 18 could sign for them.

if i were you i would definitely look into it b/c i dont see a reason for termination

I wouldn't feel comfortable working for these people, what reasons did she have not wanting to sign?? Very fishy...

I am so sorry this happened to you. I would definitely contact a laywer ASAP!! I think that would be a good first step.

That's crazy. I'm so sorry that happened to you.

If there's a bright side, I guess (not to trivialize this! Just to try to find a 'silver lining') now you have 3 weeks free to do all the little things you need to do before your wedding. Like Denise said above, demand 2 weeks' severance pay. Get paid for DIY'ing placecards at home, and worry about finding a job when you get back from your honeymoon!

thank you girls, how do i get severance pay? do i need to go through them for it? if so, i dont think its gonna happen.. or at least be easy at all... blehhhh

wow...are they hiding something...the whole situation seems really weird...I would get in touch wiht a lawyer yourself and ask what rights you have as an employer...

yeah i really do wonder what they are hiding.. it just seems so strange to me what they did... the way she said it to me was strange too.. i dunno the whole thing is just still surreal to me right now... i will be okay though, i know i will.. i really love you guys, you always help me feel better no matter whats going on.
