I need help from the LIW Mommies with a gift

It has been almost 17 years since I had my 'baby' so I'm a little out of the loop.
My dear friend & coworker is 45 & preggo with her first child. She is very superstitious and does not want ANY baby gifts till after the birth.
I am in charge of shopping for her 'work shower' gift. We will have almost $300.
I'm thinking of buying her things for her stay at the hospital(she's not the silky nightie type), can you newer moms think of things that you had (or wish you had)to make your stay better. I'd like to spend $150 or so & use the rest for a BRU GC.
TIA

You can buy her a nursing pajama (if you know she's going to nurse) And why don't you gove the rest in GC?

I think this is a great idea! I can't think of anything that I felt I needed while in the hospital. All I cared about was the fact that I had a little baby in the room with me! If you feel like you want to give her more, why not some comfy slippers and some bath & body products? I was never so happy in my life as to take a nice hot shower after delivering my baby!

Re: I need help from the LIW Mommies with a gift

I would probably get her a new robe and slippers and a GC for a massage after the baby comes OR a GC to Merry Maids. They can come and clean her house for her and there is nothing better than that!
editted to add: if she is bfing, no smelly bath products are allowed.

Re: I need help from the LIW Mommies with a gift

Thanks everyone...I'm thinking of getting her a robe from VS
this diaper bag(which she may want to bring to the hospital)

and what do you ladies think of this kit? She is 'going to try BFing' but is not commited to it either way @ this point-7 months
This handy box is brimming with items you'll need during your hospital visit, including:

Nursing Gown: a super-cute, comfy, and not-at-all-frilly cotton nightgown designed for easy breastfeeding
Fine Toiletries in handy 2 ounce sizes: Rejuvenating Rosemary Mint Shampoo, Revitalizing Rosemary Mint Conditioner (with panthenol, aloe, vitamin E and allantoin), Lavender Citrus Body Wash (enriched with skin-softening glycerin), and Soothing Lavender Citrus Face & Body Lotion (creamy and silky with a mixture of essential oils and glycerine)
Motherlove® Nipple Cream: safe for your baby with no artificial fragrances, preservatives or food dyes; includes extracts of mullein leaf, mallow root and calendula in a base of olive oil, lanolin and beeswax (0.25 ounches)
Lip Balm: 100% natural with olive oil, beeswax, hemp seed oil, comfrey and more, keeps your lips moist during labor
Headband: keeps your pesky hair away from your face during delivery and breastfeeding
Treaded Socks: non-slip bottom (of cute pink hearts!) is safe for hospital floors
New Baby Checklist: turn to this before delivery - it lists all the items you need for your baby's arrival
Hospital List: a handy list of additional items that you might want to bring along to the hospital

Re: I need help from the LIW Mommies with a gift

If she is bfing or even attempting it, whe CANNOT use any bath products that have a scent. The gown is nice...but as you gals remember, there is a lot of bleeding and other spilt fluids while u r in the hospital.
I used the hosptial gowns as I knew they had to be changed frequently, and threw out the slippers and all undies when I left.

I would suggest the GC formost. She can use it for whatever she needs...the best If you can swing it, is a AMEX gift ck which you can pick up at any bank. That she can use like cash anywhere.

Re: I need help from the LIW Mommies with a gift

Oh yeah, I had forgotten about not using smelly bath stuff at first. If you do get that stuff, she can always use it once BFing has been established. And the nightie can always be used at home. I brought my own pjs to the hospital but never used them. My robe and slippers proved to be very useful as I walked up and down the hospital hallways during labor.
Maid service is great too!! Wish someone had done that for me!

Re: I need help from the LIW Mommies with a gift

I think you have some very nice choices but as a previous (and current) Mom to be I think an Amex GC (can be used anywhere) or just cash is nice with a small gift, like a Tiffany rattle. They did that with my old job and gave me the cash which was also a generous amount. I ended up using some of it towards the glider and some of it towards a cleaning service to scrub our place top-to-bottom.

Re: I need help from the LIW Mommies with a gift

I think Id also agree with giving most of it to her as an Amex GC or a GC to BRU. and a small portion as a gift.(Something small for her and something small for baby, and the rest in $$).

Im sure she'll appreciate it that way, since you know she is superstitious and doesnt want too much before the baby.

Let us know how it goes
