I need opinions...

I need opinions...

Me and DH just brought a co-op. As a house warming gift, my inlaws are paying for us to get new carpets and paint for the entire apartment.

The workers are starting today, and my in-laws said that they will go over later in the day to see how the work is coming along. I feel that since it is our house, DH and I should be the first ones to see what it looks like.

Am I wrong for feeling like this or am I making a mountain out of a mohile?

Iam Boosh's DH, so she is talking about my parents. I agree that they can be a little overbearing, but in this case, I don't see the problem. We told the workers what we wanted done and what colors to paint the room. We also gave them money as a deposit. My parents are simply going over there to make sure they are doing a good job. We both work and we'll be at weddings tonight and tomorrow, so we wouldn't really have a chance to see that they did a good job. I'd like my parents to be able to catch a small problem, before it becomes a bigger one.

That's my take -- don't you love having a married couple on the same board. If she writes stuff about me and my parents, you can bash us, I don't mind. It's all good

I dont see it as a problem. You are both going to be unavailable to see how the workers are doing. I don't think your parents are being nosey, they just want to make sure the work is being done right.

Look at it this way...Wouldnt you rather walk in there and know that the work was done correctly? Maybe if your parents didnt get to see the place, the workers wouldnt of done as good a job, or missed something...who knows.

Just be happy that the works is getting done, and dont let the little things bother you so much.

1. They are supposed to be professionals so why wouldnt they do a good job.

2. They are going to be working there till Monday, so if there was a problem we would catch it before they are done.

It's costing my parents a bit of cash to do this, so if it's not done right, that wouldn't be good

Listen dear:

1. This is a side job for these two guys --would you want to spend all this money and have it not be a good job?

2. I never said we couldn't go there on Sunday, or even tomorrow night, we'll be back by 6 or so

Tell you the truth it would kind of irk me too because I feel like owning something this major for the 1st time is such and accomplishment and you want to be the first to enjoy everything about it and then show others....but don't let it get to you and since they are paying - you will have tons of new stuff and you will be the first to see it! Good Luck and happy decorating!

If we were available tonight or tomorrow, we'd be there

Listen, my MIL isn't a walk in the park either, but I deal with the small stuff

In your shoes, I would like to see it first. But since that is not possible, I would appreciate someone/anyone checking to make sure they are doing the job well.

Anything could happen - they could get the colors mixed up or the wrong colors. This is easily fixed but why not catch it early instead of prolonging the process.

But if it's a real sore point, reschedule the whole project until you are able to personally supervise the work.

I really do not see what the big deal is. They just want to make sure that everything is going okay. I wouldn't make such a big issue out of this.

But In regards to you saying yours is better than mine, I'll say,

Ok first I am LMAO.....

Second, yes I would want want to see the work first as it is my home. The money was merely a gift in my eyes and they should have no control over how it gets done. Its like them giving you money for a new car and getting to drive it first.

*BUT* I also wouldn't let contractors in my home when I was not there, so the fact that your in-laws can stop by and act as GC's is a plus, as long as they don't make any design decisions or changes, or be too much of a general PIA to the subs....

Re: I need opinions...

You guys are cute.

My opinion..

Paint is like a Canvas to the room.. You can have a GREAT paint job but a horrible room if the things in it dont fit.

Seeing the room while it's being painted wouldnt be a big deal for me. Actually I probably wouldnt want to see it all that often. I would want to see it after all is cleared away and it's Fresh.. Brand new and ours.

Maybe that's just me.

As far as painters go.. no offense, but some of them really do need to be 'looked after'. Not so much so it's a GREAT job (i mean it is paint) but so that the job is done well, taping off and cleaning up and actual PROGRESS.

Personally Id get a bit pissy if I found out my painters were smoking while painting as well. Smoke never seems to get out once it's in. Not saying they smoke but just giving example of the little things that I'd be nickpicky about. No drinking or smoking and no long long long often breaks. I know it has to dry but if you do it right you should be able to rotate through the area. Make sure you use two even layers.. etc.

I thinks it's a wonderful gift. I see both sides of this.. but if you wanted my honest opinion, It wouldnt bother me so much. They can see it in mess, you can see it all fresh and new... then make it a home with your own pieces and show it off as a completed home.
