I need opinions...

Original post by boosh78201

Me and DH just brought a co-op. As a house warming gift, my inlaws are paying for us to get new carpets and paint for the entire apartment.

The workers are starting today, and my in-laws said that they will go over later in the day to see how the work is coming along. I feel that since it is our house, DH and I should be the first ones to see what it looks like.

Am I wrong for feeling like this or am I making a mountain out of a mohile?

Just wanted to add that I wouldnt mind having someone I trusted go by and check up on the paint guys.. I work and so does my DH. It's just such a small detail to us. We believe in trying to keep our stress levels down. We would rather not stress ourselves with work and taking time off then getting nasty with eachother over paint.

Then again I come from a military background and I guess I feel no home is final. You can always move, so the walls can be purple for all I care.. its not the house that makes the home, its the people in it. This is just not the kinda thing I'd argue about.

I like to call it constructive criticism.

Ok first I am LMAO.....

Second, yes I would want want to see the work first as it is my home. The money was merely a gift in my eyes and they should have no control over how it gets done. Its like them giving you money for a new car and getting to drive it first.

*BUT* I also wouldn't let contractors in my home when I was not there, so the fact that your in-laws can stop by and act as GC's is a plus, as long as they don't make any design decisions or changes, or be too much of a general PIA to the subs....

Thanks and I'll point out that when we went to select the colors, my wofe made the call on what colors we would have -- my mother gave some input, but the final decision was ours no questions asked, so we have no worry that they will assert themselves over how the place is being designed.

They have no control over how it is getting done, they are just there to make sure it is getting done and done the right way.

Its just paint, the way you are talking, you would think they are constructing a house.

OK and then when you walk in and see the living room painted in the color you picked for the bedroom, I don;t want to hear it
