I Need Some Help...ANY GREEK BRIDES NOT MARRYING GREEK?

How are you working the whole wedding, church and raising of your children, if you don't mind me asking. I am all over the place right now and wanted to know if anyone could shed some light. Are you allowed to marry in a Greek church but christen your children in a Catholic church? or have a Greek priest at a chatholic church for the ceremony?? any information would be helpful thanks!

I am not in this situation but my friend is Greek and they were married in the Greek Church. Her DH is Catholic and his priest was at the ceremony and did a blessing.

I would think (but could be wrong) that a Greek Preist could come to a catholic church to say a blessing -- not mass though. Seeing that Orthodox is a stricter version of the same religion.

As for your kids -- that I don't know.

I am catholic marrying a Greek and we are getting married in a Greek church and having a catholic priest come there to do a blessing. The orthodox church will not recognize the ceremony unless it happens in a Greek orthodox church.

my friend is greek and her fh isn't. basically, for them to be married in her church (which they're going to be) he's going to be baptised there. i'm not sure what they're planning on doing afterwards regarding children and everything though.

I am marrying Greek and I am catholic
We are getting married in a Greek Church----I had the priest call my Church and make sure the marriage would be recognized in the Catholic Church--which it is
I was also told my Priest could come to the Greek Church and perform a blessing and vise versa
I also made sure to ask about kids---we compromised--marry in his Church and christen the kids Catholic and they are fine with it. The religions are very similar, I think it depends on which place you go to---both our Church's are very lax.

My friend married a non greek. They had the ceremony at a Greek Orthodox church and she also has a catholic priest there. If you dont have it at a GO church then its not recognized. My sis married a non greek but my nephew was babtised GO in a GO church, is being raised Greek and goes to greek school.

Dont know if this helps but im non-greek...
Catholic marrying a Greek. We are getting married in his greek orthodox church. We are planning to raise the kids Greek Orthodox and have them go to Greek School

I am allowed in the GO Church b/c I was baptised.
You can do what you'd like with your children. I belive the greek priest would go to the catholic church but not vice versa.

This is exactly what I want to do! I am hoping that this is going to be acceptable by both our churches! Thank you so much everyone for your replies!

well i am orthodox and fh is catholic, but we're getting married in a catholic church...however, if you notice all the posts it says that couples got married at greek churches. From what i've heard bc ive also looked into this a little...catholic priests can come to a greek church, but i dont know if a greek priest can go into a catholic church, the catholics allow them its not about that but its about the orthodox religion and them going to another church to perform something, which s*cks bc i wanted to get an orthodox priest to come to the catholic church but not sure if it'll happen.

Yeah hopefully it can work out one way or another where one of the priests will come to the other church and perform a blessing, because that is all I believe they can perform. And then once kiddies roll around I am hoping we will be able to do the other one without a problem. Honestly though if i knew it wouldn't upset my mother I would just get married in the Catholic church, FH parents got married there, they were all christened there and they did his father's eulogy, also the priest would be FH uncle..not one that he remains in close contact with but enough that he would perform the ceremony. I know this would upset my mother being I am the last one to marry and she thought it would be in a Greek church so I am torn at the moment.

I'm sure you can have your FH uncle who's a priest come to the Greek church...this way everyone is involved....a Greek friend of ours also married a Catholic, and she had a priest who she knew for years come to the Greek church and be part of the ceremony and the Greek priest spoke in English the whole time.

We also have another family friend who married a Catholic, and she goes to both churches.

see the whole kid thing is where it might get complicated, fh and i are not set yet on what religion so we didn't focus on this...but some churches can be a little weird about not getting married in a church of your own religion but then trying to baptize them your own religion.

you need to do what you are happy with...see at first i thought my parents might feel a bit bad that i am not getting married in an orthodox church, well mostly my dad bc i knew my mom would not care. But my dad luckily realized that they can't say anything bc neither of them were really that religious, we didnt go to church alot and all that...fh on the other hand, his mom is in the church choir, she does fundraising for them, fh was an alter boy and so on. BUT my grandmother is extremely religious, she lives for the church and coincidentally i just had to break it to her yesterday that i am getting married in a catholic church. Seems my parents forgot, and she was telling me how nice it will be when fh and i walk around the table 3x and crown us, and i was like oh no she doesnt know...at first she was just a bit surprised but she can't do anything about it and even my mother explained to her its easiest this way.

So are you definitely planning on making your kids GO, or are they going to be catholic?

yeah that definitely can be done...shes concerned though about getting married in a greek church but then when she has kids baptising them catholic and she wonders how the catholic church would feel about that.

Re: I Need Some Help...ANY GREEK BRIDES NOT MARRYING GREEK?

Yeah see my mother has given me that evil eye kind of thing when I say I am thinking of getting married in the catholic church but for some reason yesterday I tried to tell her we weren't sure what we were going to do and that we might do one or the other but she can't have it both ways and she was like ok i think you guys just should get married in a church, which shocked me.

The whole kid thing will really come into play depending on which church we get married in and what they will allow. If it all becomes too complicated and we can't do a compromise then we will just stick with the whole reverand thing and not do a church but i feel i will regret that and being that we are both paying for this on our own we both really want to do what we want to do, out of repsect you want to do what is right and will make your parents happy but I've come to learn in planning this wedding so far is that you really can't please everyone!

See my mother, she was the president of her church, i think the church is actually her second home, lol, but for me i can't tell you the last time I went to a GO church for a service or mass i just don't really go to church or in all due respect like the church she belongs to i just feel like FH church will have more sentimental value to it because of the history in his family with it.

i know exactly what you mean, i felt with fh there was more history with his church and it would make more sense...but at the same time your situation is alot harder bc i was able to just turn around to my parents and say 'give me a break' we were never that religious of a family, like we believe and all but not to go to church all the time or anything like that. Although my dad asked why we couldn't do two ceremonies that day, do one at the catholic church and then right after go to the orthodox church, yeah he has issues lol.

good luck, hope it all works out
