I need your honeymoon suggestions...
Hi all- My FH and I are beginning to discuss honeymoon ideas. A little background for you - we are marrying this December, and a good friend is giving us his time share as our wedding gift for our honeymoon, basically anywhere we want to go. I am a school librarian, so can only go away for the length of winter break (about 8 or 9 days). We originally wanted to go to Greece, figuring we may not get an opportunity like this again in a long time, but we now hear it's winter there as well. Anyone have any good ideas for a warm climate, where we're not spending all day on a flight (or even half the day, where technically we'd be losing a full day)...thanks so much in advance!!

How about Italy or France or Spain? We are going to Africa in November. That is always an option.

Not sure about the exact temps but it doesn't get very cold in Southern Europe even in Winter. So you could still go to Greece but you would miss out on most of the appeal of the Greek Islands. What about the Canary Islands?

Greece
I visited the Greek Islands in Sept, and it was definitely the beginning of their off season. There was still a lot to do, but you could tell a lot of things were closing up for the winter. I`m not sure of the exact temps in Dec., but in Sept it was chilly in the evening. I wouldn't think it's too warm there in the winter.

How about the Caribbean?
The Caribbean is great for a short trip...We are going to the Canary Islands. b/c FH has family in Spain, so there will be a 2 part honeymoon...What about Belize or Costa Rica? They are closer than Europe, very tropical and both stable nations (English is spoken in Belize and many people in Costa Rica speak English) Costa Rica has the rain forest and Belize has the only natural barrier reef in North America... good luck planning

Any info on Italy or Greece
My FI just notified me that he does not want to go to Hawaii, he says that we are from the Caribbean and going to Hawaii would be like going home. So now he wants to go to Greece or Italy, I do not know where to begin looking. I want to go somewhere where we do not have to get on a plane again to see more or do more. Any idea will be greatly appreciated. Thanks all and happy planning

more info on Greece
When I visited Greece, I met my some friends in Athens, spent 1 night there, then took a ship down to the islands(not a luxury cruise line), and spent 7 nights on Santorini. The Greek Islands are absolutely gorgeous, but 7 nights was too much (at least for me) on one island. It`s also common to either take a boat or small plane to another island like Mykonos. I heard Rhodes was the most beautiful, but I`m not sure how touristy it is. What time of year are you going? The summers there are definitely the most popular and crowded, but the beginning of Sept is nice too - hot during the day, but about 60 degrees at night. Let me know if you have any other questions!

more info on Greece...our wedding is 8/3/02
Is this usually costly going from island to island?? I was worried about whether or not instead of us relaxing we would be so tired from all the travelling, going from place to place. THanks

Well, when I went there, we did the backpacking after college thing, so we were roughing it. The ship was cheap, but it wasn`t the best way to go, considering it`s a 10 hr trip. Between the 8 hr flight and 10 hr trip, I was exhausted. Most people fly down to the islands, but I`m not sure how much it costs. The inter-island flights shouldn`t be too bad, b/c it`s a quick flight - I would think 1 hr all together. My friend got married this past August and went to Athens, then Santorini and Mykonos. She loved the trip, but said she would have prefered to stay on Santorini longer. Fira (or Thira) is the city on Santorini, and it`s so beautiful -winding cobblestone walkways, with great restaurants and shops overlooking the Med. Sea. It really is exactly how they picture it in those Parliment ads!! I would think in August, there`s enough to keep you busy on Santorini - they have watersports, visiting the vineyards, seeing Akotiri (sp?), which is the Greek version of Pompeii, and a ton of sightseeing with all the gorgeous views. I think my friend`s package cost $4-5K, but it may be less now, with the decrease in tourism. If you have any other questions, let me know - I also have an UW journal (Teri 2002).

Actually, I`m using the same travel agent that my friend used - Christine from Liberty Travel in Levittown - i HIGHLY recommend her. She knows what she`s talking about, gives you suggestions and feeback, and has a great personality to boot! My friend was so pleased with her, that she also booked with her on a future trip this Spring. Thanks for the compliments on my journal! Stef had asked for info on the video person - that`s why I was so detailed :)Welcome New Vendors
