I p*ssed my mom off & now I want validation from you guys
Hey all (sorry it's long)-- Long story short: I told my mom that I preferred to get dressed at the hotel I will be staying at, rather than at my parents' house because there's more room at the hotel and we would all be more comfortable. She completely flipped out and told me I was ridiculous and I'm supposed to get dressed with my family at the house. Even though there's only one bathroom and it''s a very small house and I can guarantee you we will get into 1,000,000 fights that day (I remember getting ready for the prom!). The day before she had said that I'd have to get to their house early to get ready so that my FH wouldn't see me in the dress--I thought that was the only issue, I had no idea she would flip out like she did. So, I will get dressed at my parents and I will have a horrible time, but I just wanted to know if I really was being ridiculous or not. Those of you that are long-distance and will be staying in hotels, are you getting dressed at your parents or at the hotel? Thanks!

I agree with you
I am getting ready at my Aunt's home because she has 4 bathrooms and 5 bedrooms. There was no way I could get dressed at my parents. My mom, dad, and 2 brothers all have to get ready and they have 1 bathroom. My mom agreed that it was a great idea. I think your Mom just thinks it will be fine. Maybe you can speak with your Dad. With so many people trying to all get ready, you need space and time. Also, how will your BMs get ready with 1 bathroom. Maybe you can sit down and explain to your Mom that you love your home but need to be relaxed and not rushed on the morning of the wedding. Sorry to hear about the fight. Weddings are so stressful!!

my advice... (long)
I am having that dilema as well. My parents are recently divorced, and the house I grew up in was sold 2 years ago. I am really sad that I can not get ready at the house that I grew up in. My issue is that the wedding is close to my dad's house, but of course I want to get ready with my Mom. She lives about an hour away, and I live in Maryland. I thought I would get ready at a hotel or B& B, but recently my mom has been dropping hints like she wants me to get ready at her and my stepdad's house. Although I am not sure what I will do, if it means that much to her I will get ready at her house. I know that my needs will take precednet(sp) over everyone elses. I would imagine it would be the same at your house. As long as I am surrounded by the people I love it does not really matter where I get ready. I will be so happy to be getting married to the man of my dreams that it won't matter. If it means that much to my Mom I will get ready at her house. Good luck!! (sorry my response is so long winded)

I know how you feel...
My wedding isn't until next August and already my mom insists that I get dressed at her house. She says I have to, it's tradition. I would rather be at a hotel. For one, my parents only have 1 bathroom, and only one air conditioner in their bedroom. I remember getting ready for work when I lived there and it was horrible. I was sweating after 5 minutes. And two, I'll be having six bridesmaids. Now tell me, how in the h*ll is 6 BM's, 1 mother, 1 grandmother, a father and a bride supposed to get ready at the same time??? I DON'T THINK SO!!! She is very insulted that I don't want to get ready at their house. I'm not suggesting it to upset her, it's only the most logical thing to do! I will not be happy. I will probably be stressed out already, I don't need to cramped and sweating at the same time. AAAAaaaaahhh! Sorry... Anyway, I know how you feel, I don't know what to do either. Why should we be miserable getting ready for our special day? Good luck!

I know how you feel...
I am staying at my apartment thank heavens! My father will be overly nervous and he gets almost mean when he is nervous. He ruined the start of both proms with me by starting fights when I was getting ready. My mom actually suggested I not stay home because of him. I would liked to have been there but with dad the way he is... Maybe you can sit down with your mom and really explain to her how you feel. Maybe she would be willing to stay at the hotel with everyone the night before this way she can still help you and see you get ready and it wont be so crowded. Really explain to her how you feel about no air conditioning and how nervous you will be and being short on bathrooms and numerous people there it wont work and how much more worried you will be. Also try to tell her how early you all have to be up and over there to get ready in time and then tell her how early you would get up at the hotel, therefore you can enjoy more time together (alone maybe) before the rush to get ready. The hotel might even have a restaurant where you and her can go to eat breakfast just the two of you. I know its like bribery but just lay it all out for her and maybe she will stay with you. It will be like a night away for her too! Just try and show her its less stressful for you and HER if you all stay at a hotel or she meets you their. Try to show her you dont want her to worry or stress over stuff either and would like to have a wonderful morning getting ready with her. Good luck!!

Thanks for the validation :-)
Thanks for all the comments! My wedding is also not until next August--so I think I may not say anything else about it until it gets closer. I'm definitely staying at the hotel the night before--and the wedding is not until the evening. I could very easily get dressed at the hotel, and go to my parents for pictures, and then go to the Meadow Club. I'm just envisioning mass chaos if I have to get ready there, with my mother, sister, 3 BMs, brother, and father all getting ready as well. Thanks!!

What we did
I went thru the same thing--the house i grew up in was sold 6 months earlier-- i was coming in from NJ and my mom lived about 30 minutes from the church when i first told her i was looking for a pretty hotel she couldnt understand why it mattered--that is until I told her that i would be getting dressed there--she was not happy at all --but we included her in with everything the rehearsal was the night before nad all bridesmaids and my mom stayed at the hotel with me (seperate rooms--i am not that crazy) then we went to breakfast and got hair and makeup done together-- the hotel worked out perfect because with all the bridesmaids and flowergirls we had pleny of room--- it took a while for me to 'win' but in the end it all worked out good luck-- Laura

I know how you feel!!
The person that I will have doing my hair and makeup is in Nassau, the church is in Nassau, I live in NJ, my maid of honor is in Nassau, and my grandmother live two blocks from the church.... but, alas, MY MOTHER wants me to get ready at the house.. which is 45 minutes from the church, sooooo.. me, the maid of honor, the hair and makeup lady.. ALL have to drive out to Suffolk County, only to turn around and go back for the church... Mothers and weddings never mix all the way, all the time.. I figure.. hey, I am sure if I have a daughter someday, and she gets married, I will want her to get ready at home too.. and then I just have another glass of wine, and everything seems ok again...
