I quit wedding planning

Original post by DebsNY

I didn't want this big wedding in the first place. Half the things that we're doing are to make other people (AKA the Moms) happy.

So, I quit. I have been crying over this for 2 days straight, and that's not what it's supposed to be. If they want all these people there, they can do the invitations. Because I'm done.

I'm officially resigning my post as bride.

but we can still be married without the crazy wedding

true...but once you put all this effort into it...you will be rewarded nicely at the end.

Yeah, the reward being that's it's finally over. Oh, and a crazy mother in law that wants to live with us when she retires.

ETA: Sorry, I'm in a bad mood so pretty much everything is going to be negative...

Remember this is YOUR DAY YOUR WAY (as quoted from LP). I cried rather often throughout the planning process. Its worth it in the end!

couldn't have said it better myself.

unfortunatly, the parents don't agree.

I'm pretty sure it's MOM AND FMIL'S DAY MOM AND FMIL'S way.

screw the bride and groom.

no one ever tells you how stressful wedding planning can be - it is NOT fun and it is NOT romantic especially when families are dueling over how many guests they get on their list. Planning a wedding is like planning an EVENT - if any of you are event planners, um, HOW STRESSFUL IS THAT?! and this is ten fold b/c it's supposed to be about you and your groom, yet both sides are making unfair demands on both of you....hear, hear debsNY, i'm with you. i cannot WAIT to be done and married. stressful, stressful, year...

all i keep hearing from my parents is that my in laws have too many guests, but they won't take any guests off...

FMIL had so many people on her list, we told her we weren't not inviting them... and that was it! We invited who FH knew/wanted at the wedding. She wasn't happy, but it's not her wedding.

I've had MAJOR issues with her, FSIL, my father and my gma about things we (FH and I) do and DON'T want to do.... and we are sticking to our guns! I refuse to look back at my wedding and say, 'I should have done it how we want.' I've also told FH a few times that I should have listened to him and gone to the judge... but I want this wedding and I'm not letting anyone stop us.

I wish we did that. Deb I felt the same way you did about the guest list. I think that was the HARDEST thing about planning. But you're almost finished with it. I just let my parents invite who they wanted. They ara paying for the reception so I couldn't really tell them no...

what happened to us strong independant women?

what happened to just saying NO when we dont want something?

Why does someone else paying make a difference?

Deb, Im going to buck the trend here and say if you want to quit , do it. There are days when i REALLY want my beach wedding with only family present and i want to give the rest of it up to.

You need to do what makes you happy but dont make a decision in anger- use your head and your heart!

I'm so impressed with how open women on this thread are - I absolutely love it. None of my 'real' friends who are also engaged ever TALK about any of this - when I ask them how things go, they say 'great! so perfect!' it's complete (@#($*. planning a wedding IS stressful there is no way around it.

Speaking of stressful, does anyone's mom stress them out?

Your wedding day is practically around the corner. Just hang in there it's almost over. I learned to just let people say what they want but all in all it's YOUR wedding so they can moan and groan all they want. Just remember who the bride is....were all in the same boat.

Debs... i'm so sorry you have to deal with being double teamed by the mamadukes seriously, i would jsut invite all your friends anyway! what are they gonna say? by the time people RSVP yes, they cant tell you to call them back and tell them theyre uninvited AND there are going to be alot of declines (its natural),, so its better to be safe (about hitting your minimum) than sorry (you should use that logicl with them ) Honestly though, i would just invite my friends and not even tell them if i did.

and maybe take one of these-- its seems perfect for the situation
