Hi girls! I'm so upset I missed the winery trip, I definately would have been there...when is the next trip???
Not sure if DCgirl82 told you about the tragic thing that happened in my family. I'm sure everyone read about the man in Islip that blew off his arm with a firework. Well he is my brother! And two weeks after that was our e-party...ugh...I was so not into it! But I had it because my brother demanded it. His accident happened on July 3rd, our e-party was July 17th. I wanted to reschedule but I guess I'm glad we did it...just really wasn't too into it...like I should have been.
But now that the e-party is done I need to get back into planning...June 3rd...is too much right around the corner. Yikes! Also want to get pictures up to share with everyone...I needed to throw myself back in here and talk to you girls again...just so hard when your family is going through so much...I'm hoping I'll get the bride gene back soon...

Every day my brother is getting better and better and him and I spoke about my engagement party and he told me he is so sorry he missed it but he is so glad that I had it cause it would have hurt him so much. So I'm glad I made him happy! My aunt is here from Seattle, she is a RN so she is getting him on track and also taught me how to change his dressing cause my sister-in-law doesn't have a stomach for it. I did it no problem, he was actually very proud of me, he couldn't believe I didn't even flinch. His spirits are awesome and he is still my brother...personality and everything! Love him to pieces!!
Thank you so much everyone for your support...it was comforting reading your comments and getting me back into the bridal mode!

Oh my goodness! I'm sorry to hear what happened to ur brother. I'm def glad that he's ok and u and ur family r doing better. We'll def help u to get in bride mode, the girls in here r soooo nice and welcoming, so u'll def catch on =)

well like everyone else, im so sorry for your family. I can relate in someways. my brother was badly injured in a 4wheeler accident, and lost use of his left arm. he has it...but the nerves are shot and he can't use it. it just ..well... hangs there :(
NOT that it's the same thing, but if was an adjustment for him to learn to do everything with his other hand.
things will get better, little by little. your brother will be ok, because he wants to be ok. attitude is everything and it seems like he has a great one.
the best thing you can do for him is celebrate your big day with all your heart. (not that it will be easy) but a half hearted celebration would only make him feel guilty.
the brother/sister dance sounds AMAZING. i'm getting misty just thinking about it, and i dont even know you!!
you seem like an AMAZING person. God bless you, your FH, your brother and entire family!

Oh my goodness!!! I'm so sorry to hear about this! When did this all happen to your brother??? In a way we are going through the same thing...both of our brothers lost their left arm in some way. Will he ever get his nerves back? Or are they gone forever?
This is all so new to all of us and we all really don't know how to feel, what to do, how to act around him, it's a new adjustment in our family and we are all struggling.
My thoughts and prayers are with you, your brother and family as well!
It's so sad how your life can change in a split second and I never used to believe that until now :0(

it happened about 5 years ago.
well what happened is that the nerves were severed from his spine. they can't be reattached. He hit the tree so hard with his shoulder that it tore the nerves away from his spinal cord
he has a scar that runs from his ear, down his neck, to his collar bone.
he has limited mobility (he can lift the arm up about waist high, but the fingers just dangle
they look like limp noodles, there is no muscle tone- because there are no nerves attached to his spine. he just tucks the hand into his pocket. He can't use it, it's just...there
He has since ran a 5k, gotten married... life goes on ya know? it was hard for him, but he has his life.... it wasn't his legs ya know? he can walk and use the other arm.
it's tough - i know- but keep focusing on what you have. he is alive!! and he will recover, and my favorite line from the movie cast away tom hanks says 'And I know what I have to do now. I got to keep breathing. Because tomorrow, the sun will rise....'
