I think our friends got RIPPED OFF ROYALY.......what do you think?

Ok, so our friends got married in September. They JUST received their bill from the reception hall (last week) and to their SHOCK, thier alcohol bill was $3900.00.

Now here is the kicker........they only had 92 guests attend the reception.

5 of them were pregnant
14 of them were children

So that leaves 73 guests that MAY have been drinking. Now out of those 73 guests, some of them aren't drinkers.......not sure how many, but I just know it was a fair amount.

For argument sake, lets say ALL 73 drank.. That would mean that each of them drank over $53.00 worth. NOW, keep in mind that they ONLY served beer and they had bottles of wine on the tables that were PREVIOUSLY purchased by the bride and groom.

The reception started at 6pm and ended at 11pm.

So from the above information, do you agree with us that they got ripped off??

My FI and I aren't sure what the cost of the beer was BUT we do know it would be between $3.00 - 3.75.

Yah, they brought it up to the RH. They told them they felt the bill was WAY too high considering the guest list, and they RH responded by saying 'How can you prove that we over charged you?'........

We're taking the plunge with an ultra-premium bar

(unlimited drinks, only top shelf, good wine, and highend beers), and for 4 hours we're paying about $25/pp (minus kids/pregnant).

that bill is WELL beyond overpriced.... if it's not an error, it is patently dishonest.
No one can drink that much beer..... that would mean everyone was well beyond drunk.... unless there are hidden fees (large fee to pay for bartender, $20/bottle 'corking fee')...

The $3900.00 was PURELY the alcohol that was consumed........according to the RH

they could say that if they actually DID serve that much, the bartender is negligent becuase each person was permitted to have a blood alcohol level above .15!!!! Bartenders are supposed to cut drunks off... if they don't, they lose their license.

How can the reception hall PROVE that they didn't overcharge. Your friend should ask for a detailed bill showing exactly how much was consumed and what price was charged for each beer/bottle of wine. Without a detailed receipt they shouldn't have to pay.

That is awful. They really should leave a negative review of the hall so the rest of us will beware

That bill is waaaaaaaay over the top. A normal pp bar tab for top shelf is anywhere between 25-35 pp.
Even if each person drank-including the kids it isnt that much

Were they charged corkage for the wine bottles? They might not even have realized, or it might have been a mistake. It can be a LOT of money, way more than the bottle of wine. Total ripoff, of course. I've planned work-related parties many times and come across this, it's why bringing in your own booze often doesn't pay, no matter how cheap you can get it. And they may have been charged some ridiculous amount for the bartenders.

It might very well be a mistake, but if not, it's why it's essential to read EVERY contract that is put in front of you during your wedding planning, and read the ENTIRE thing. I bought my gown a week ago, and the salesladies joked about reading the contract and you can just sign right there and when I said, 'Thank you, but I'm going to read it' they made a joke about how it's OK, they had all week, and then they were dumbfounded when I read the whole thing through. Yes, I skimmed--I had a horrible migraine at the time, for one thing (no their fault)--but I read every clause. I work with a lot of contracts and it's important to read them, because although most vendors are honest and just need the protection of a contract--and you do too!--some try to sneak stuff past you. Like a huge corkage fee.

Your friends need to review their contract, and get an itemized bill from the RH.

Edit--now I see the post where it says that it was purely the alcohol consumed. I think your friend needs to talk to a lawyer about the fact that if that much alcohol really was consumed, they overserved the guests. Or else they're committing fraud by overcharging. They should back down.

Even if they charged 5$ for the beer- that would mean EVERY guest drank about 10 beers- that is outrageous!
