A friend (granted, she's in PA) just asked me if she could bring her baby to my wedding. How do I respond?

'No'
Unless, of course, you don't mind her brining her child.

Are you having kids at the wedding? Do you want a BABY at your wedding? If not, say no, sorry, that's the answer.

I think the truth always works best. If you think that you would want her to bring the baby, then tell her that. If, on the other hand, you do not wish for her to bring the baby, ask her, nicely, if she can make other arrangements when it comes to someone looking after the baby. HTH

If you don't want children/babies at your wedding just kindly tell her 'no' if she's a true friend she will understand

Depends on how badly you want HER at your wedding. If she's coming from out of state, it might be difficult to find someone to keep the baby overnight, especially a young one. (I know, I have a 3 month old - can't get anyone to watch him even for an hour!) That being said, I don't think it's nervy of her to ask. It's actually quite considerate - imagine how you would feel if she just showed up, baby in tow!

If you don't want the baby there then say no. I had a BM who lives in NY drop out of the wedding because we are not having kids. She didn't ask she just dropped out. If she did ask I still would have said no. No kids means no kids out of state or not, in the BP or not! JMO

If it were me, I wouldn't feel bad telling someone no about babies. There is always a nice way to get your point across.

It's nervy if she's knows you aren't having kids at the wedding... or if you have already sent invites out and it was clear her child was not invited. It is not if she doesn't know whether you are inviting kids or not and was asking in advance to plan.
Edited to say ..... and of course that is JMO!

I agree with this poster. For a lot of women it's hard to find a babysitter, and she may have been thinking 'well let me see if she minds my baby there, because it's important to me (and to her) to be at the wedding.' In other words, rather than just rsvp'ing 'no' and having you wonder what a bad friend she is, she's seeing if she can make alternate arrangements so that she can come.

what I said was 'Your kids are so good, but you know, if they come, I have to invite the not so good ones!' worked like a charm!

Not sure if it's nervy...
One recent trend that I've noticied is that wedding guests seem to think they're doing the bride and groom some HUGE favor by attending a wedding. That's what seems to give them the courage to ask for special accomodations....
If you're not having kids at the wedding, just tell her that you're not having kids and that if you were to let her bring her baby, it would start a war with the family members who were told that they couldn't bring children.

Exactly what I was going to tsay, I know that I had a hard time with the family because we said no kids under 10 years old, so if I were to let a friend bring her baby, well I would not blame my family for being upset & hurt.
Plus most people should know no one wants a baby at a wedding, they cry and who wants a stroller in the middle of everything, or in pictures.
And as a parent you should not want to bring a baby to a wedding where the volume on the speakers would be harmful to the baby.
IMO weddings are no place for a baby.

Personally, I think its nervy for anyone to ask to bring ANYONE to a wedding - baby or not.

I've been to weddings where the bride hires a babysitter so that their friends/family can bring their baby but the baby won't be in the reception room. Usually places will allow a babysitter to watch kids in either an extra room or the bridal suite. This way your friend can enjoy the party and know that her baby is in the next room incase she's needed.

JMO, but some people don't mind having babies and/or any children at their wedding, crying or not, in a stroller or otherwise. Personally, I am looking forward to having my babies, all 3 of them, in my pictures and sharing mine and their father's special day

I think it's fair to tell her that you aren't inviting children to the wedding. Surley she won't be offended by that...If she is, too bad for her, it's your wedding.

Just say 'we are not having any child at the wedding' if shes a friend, she will understand.
