I think this is rude...

Original post by july06bride

I JUST got a wedding invitation..inside the invitation (by the way it was addressed to Mr and Mrs... yet we are not married yet) there was a small card...the card states

Dear Friends,
On this special day there is no better gift than your presence. At this time N and A will be living in rome, Italy and this is the reason they are choosing a wedding contribution instead of gifts.

Thanks

Is it me or is this completely unnecessary/??Please, let me know if i am overreacting.

Question...

if not contribution, how would you briefly word it? -- just in case there happens to be a bride / groom on here who may be thinking of the same...

Keep your gifts, we want cash!

Your presence in sharing our special day is a gift in and of itself. We will be moving to Rome, Italy after our nuptials and would appreciate that guests not bring gifts.

IMO, if you don't want gifts, you shouldn't direct people to give money instead. That is presumptuous. Those that wish to give something will realize that money may be a better choice.

Dear Brides and Brides-to-be;

December 11, 2005 will mark this website's 10 year anniversary. Many have expressed a desire to show their appreciation by sending Ron and Liz gifts. Although this is an absolutely thoughtful idea and just your presence on the website is a present in and of itself and just the thought of the ladies sending gifts touches everyone's heart they really would much rather have cash! We will be setting up a special secure form in which you can input your credit cards. Thank you all so much for you understanding!

Regards
Ron and Liz children

Too funny!

I don't feel that it is rude or offensive. You have to understand that countries outside of the US have different ways of wording invitations. It may seem offensive to Americans, but in other countries it is well mannered to state what kind of gift the bride and groom request.

Maybe the invitation could have been worded differently.

May be true- however in this case, we have been to other ecuadorian weddings-family...and its never had it before...so I dont see it is a cultural thing...I think they want cash-not money_(which is ok) and they asked for it(not ok)

ummm...the couple lives in ITALY. I think they were trying to politely say, 'please don't give us STUFF...how the hell are we going to bring it to ROME?'

They probably could have worded it better, but I do understand that they were trying to send the message that they can't lug things across the Atlantic Ocean.

Me too.. I dont think it would offend or bother me much. I wouldnt have the B@lls to put that on my invite.. but they just put what most ppl who have a destination wedding really thinking. Prob could've been worded better.
