I JUST got a wedding invitation..inside the invitation (by the way it was addressed to Mr and Mrs... yet we are not married yet) there was a small card...the card states
Dear Friends, On this special day there is no better gift than your presence. At this time N and A will be living in rome, Italy and this is the reason they are choosing a wedding contribution instead of gifts.
Thanks
Is it me or is this completely unnecessary/??Please, let me know if i am overreacting.

LOL... I would make a contribution to a charity in their names and place that in their card! Let's see how that goes over!
Considering that they couldn't even bother to address the invitation properly, and then have the gall to ask for money... LOL... maybe I'm just a little petty about these things.....
I LOVE this idea...I dont know if I could do it...but I do love the idea

I LOVE this idea! If they really didn't want any gifts, they would have stated that their guests presence is enough and to please not give gifts as they are moving overseas - you don't ask for $$.

Re: I think this is rude...
i thought about this and i really think that what was said WAS in fact tacky...
I actually understand that they said no gifts, lordy that would be a lot to bring over to Italy....BUT to ask money to be given to pay for the wedding...TACKY. Anyway by the time they get the money the WEDDING is over...
I think it is the wording that bothers me most

I felt so touched with this I thought I would give you the $$$ to give as a gift. Here it is!

I agree- it is the wording

Wanting is ok- asking is not

Honestly if I received an invite like that I would just laugh. I wouldn't be offended just embarassed for the bride and groom.

Dear Brides and Brides-to-be;
December 11, 2005 will mark this website's 10 year anniversary. Many have expressed a desire to show their appreciation by sending Ron and Liz gifts. Although this is an absolutely thoughtful idea and just your presence on the website is a present in and of itself and just the thought of the ladies sending gifts touches everyone's heart they really would much rather have cash! We will be setting up a special secure form in which you can input your credit cards. Thank you all so much for you understanding!
Regards Ron and Liz children

ummm...the couple lives in ITALY. I think they were trying to politely say, 'please don't give us STUFF...how the hell are we going to bring it to ROME?'
They probably could have worded it better, but I do understand that they were trying to send the message that they can't lug things across the Atlantic Ocean.
I agree...my mother got an invitation to awedding here in NY...the couple will be living in Israel...they included a card explaining that anything they would need could be purchased in Israel. Having to lug gifts back from the U.S. would be a pain in the arse...imo...who wants to worry about weight requirements, extra luggage esp since they will be flying back to Israel from their HM destination...are they suppose to lug all they're gifts with them on their HM also???...I don't see anything rude with it at all...jmo

Re: I think this is rude...
I can understand why they prefer cash but the wording 'wedding contribution' is just SO inappropriate, IMO. They really should just have used word of mouth or left it at 'your presence it present enough' period.

If there is no better gift than your presence, why do they want a contribution?
Exactly what I was thinking

Re: I think this is rude...
Question...
if not contribution, how would you briefly word it? -- just in case there happens to be a bride / groom on here who may be thinking of the same...
