I thought this was supposed to be enjoyable...

Original post by MrHostility

At least that's what people tell me. Me and LovelyL are never going to find something that suits us. Every place is now such a great disappointment, because there are so few places left to look.

Today we looked at East Wind. We really liked the property(what we could see in the dark) but we disliked the cocktail room that Country Garden uses. We also weren't crazy about the decor, but given the name we should have thought about that before hand.

Perhaps the biggest setback is the fact that L called Jericho Terrace and they said the best they can do for the room up from the basement is 130 guarentee, instead of 150. Then they said we would be charged Saturday night prices instead of Friday night, because they were dropping the 150 to 130. Well if you do the math on both quote, before tax and service, it's a $200 difference. ($80pp Sat, $72pp Fri) After you add tax and service, it comes out to $600 savings. Big deal, thanks for the help, Frank. I feel mostly bad because L loves that place, and now I really doubt it's going to be there. I want her to be happy, but I'm weirdly against the small room there.

It's also bumming us out that we don't have more than 100 people to come to our wedding. We feel like everyone else has these huge weddings with tons of people. I haven't heard one person tell me(in real life) their wedding is under 150 people. That really f's up the choices you have when it comes to rooms, etc.

Sorry for the vent, but it was just another fustrating night of going nowhere.

MrHostility, I sent you another FM. Just some things that I learned in this whole wedding planning process.

Any opinions on Hamelt Willow Creek? They sent us a DVD, but it's only an artists conception. Has anyone been to see it? I don't think it's finished as of yet.

I don't think that Hamlet will be finished for a while. They expect you to book off the drawings (that's why you get a good price).

We have the same situation as you, and did not choose JT for the same reason as you (I did not like that little room at all! Just not for me). We only had to guarantee 100 at our place.

Lessing's also has Smithtown Landing Country Club (was under $90 for a Saturday night in June so I think it will be in your price range) and another place in Great River - can't remember the name of it. Try their website -

www.lessings.com

We liked Smithtown Landing but they didn't have our date available. They are doing a lot of renovations too.

The Metropolitan in Glen Cove might be good for you - you're looking off-season, so they might lower the minimum (we were told 150 for a Saturday night in June, but got them to lower it to 120 - but again, they didn't have our date available). They are in your price range too (we got them to lower that $5pp too).

Keep looking - you've still got lots of options and will find one that's right for you.

First of all, don't feel bad about the 100 guests, our final head count is 115.
Keep looking, you will find something
Try the other suggestions like

Chateau Briand
North Ritz Club
Westbury Manor
The Swan Club
Danfords(they are redoing the whole place right now, see today's Newsday)

Those places are probably more your style, judging by the Jericho Terrace.

Good luck, and don't get too upset, you will find something. I couldn't even tell you how many places we looked at. We were actually just going to have it at The Meadow Club and we went to the Vineyard on a whim(driving by), fell in love, good price and that was that.
Made the decision on the spot!

not sure how many people you are planning but for a smaller wedding try The Beach Club Estate in Ronkonkoma. It is right on the shore of the lake

I agree me and my Fh have looked at just about every place on LI(literally). We are planning on about 150 people or less, and under $120 pp(my FH likes 100 and under). I went to go speak to Barbara from Hamlet Willow Creek they will be done in January but booking events later than that. They're menu looks great but they don't have a chef yet? It is a deal of a lifetime but should you gamble with your wedding? If you want a Xmas wedding this is out of the question. Also did you try the Miller Place Inn? They quoted us $85 pp on a Saturday in May. Good Luck, I know this reception booking is a terrible process!

I don't have any suggestions for you as to where else to look but I just wanted to say that choosing a catering hall was incredibly difficult for us and no fun at all after seeing the first couple places. It's impossible to find the 'perfect' place.

Also, I went to a wedding recently that had about 80 guests and it was great. It really didn't feel like a small wedding in any way. The bride and groom received many compliments on a great party.

Just thought I'd add my two cents.

Sorry your having such a problem. Its a shame you dont like the Country Gardens because the price is so good and the reputation is great. My FI wanted the estate because he isnt into the country decor thing like I am, but alas we are having about 100 people and they would be lost anywhere else. Best of luck in your search.

I'd like to third Vineyard Caterers. It's lovely there with a great foyer and fireplace. We had to gurantee 100 for a Saturday day wedding in June and the price was just under $100pp before tax andf gratuity.

We are in the same situation, FH and I have been to a bunch of places (not as many as you, I think 10 but I could be blocking some out) and we still haven't found one. It is not fun, FH is pretty much at the point where he'll take anything! We like the Jericho Terrace too, but had a few issues with times and stuff, though it's still in first place. Hopefully we'll find something this weekend, I don't know about you but they're all starting to look the same!

Try the Three village Inn in Stony Brook, The Riverview, I think it's in the Patchogue area, Sunset Harbor, also in Patchogue, Timberpoint Country Club (very nice place) in Great River. My wedding is a John Anthony's and we only had to guarantee 100 people. Good luck and I hope this helps.
